A useful read to understand the behaviour of some of the largest actors in the global politicsl economy today. Enshitification, whilst giving us lisence to use a swear word in work discussions, gives us a useful term to describe the rise of AI, crypto and big tech.
Newspaper famous for lying repeats lies by well known liar, Richard Tice, famous for telling lies about fossil fuels because rich liars pay him to repeat their lies.

What if energy security is slowing climate action?
Research by Dr @james7jackson.bsky.social @manchester.ac.uk & Mathias Larsen finds that concerns about relying on China for green tech are reshaping climate policy — and could delay the adoption of renewables.

Two more panels today and then we finish on a roundtable with @james7jackson.bsky.social, @cisk.bsky.social and Paul Tobin (@uomsoss.bsky.social) talking about their recent/upcoming climate politics books.
Roundtable is at 3.30 in Room 9.

🔓️ 🇨🇳 China's support for clean technologies is effectively subsidising a global green transition, argue @james7jackson.bsky.social & @mathiaslarsen.bsky.social. Chinese dominance presents dilemmas for the EU, the US & other countries: compete, cooperate, surrender, or abandon the green transition🌏️

We argue that this presents all others countries with essentially four options
We argue that this, on the one hand, it a good development in climate policies, as green technologies have never been as bountiful, nor as cheap. Yet, because of this, we can see that would-be competitors to China, particularly the EU and the US, are beginning to regress on climate policies.
In this debate/viewpoint article, we argue that due to China's vast production of the 'new three' green technologies (batteries, EVs and solar), it is essentialy subsiding global decarbonization.

An important contribution to the work on critical mineral extraction, clarifying an area I think a lot of us talk about in a very general way.
New commentary piece out in @greencb.bsky.social with @mathiaslarsen.bsky.social in which we discus central bank independence, green monetary policy and the People’s Bank of China (PBoC) - greencentralbanking.com/2026/01/13/c...
Read the current in book on China from 2025. The distinction between China’s focus on supply and the US’s on demand is nice. It still, predictably, goes for the ‘China is amazing at X but it should still be more like the US’ angle.
The idea of the Engineering State is also a bit reductionist.

"Tackling climate change & nature loss is one of the greatest economic opportunities of our era.” This line may have forever changed the language of climate finance from one of responsibility of richer nations...to one of investment, esp. for the Global South." 🙄🤨 carboncopy.info/new-report-r...
