75 Important Bird Areas (IBAs), have been identified in Ireland for seabirds, including 51 coastal sites. These areas are crucial areas for bird conservation, especially the coastal areas which support seabird breeding colonies.
Ireland’s marine waters represent 8% of the EU’s marine area and hosts 24 species of seabirds, including significant proportions of EU species populations. Thanks to research completed by our BirdWatch Ireland team and @birdlifeglobal.bsky.social—

Yes, absolutely. There have been no cases of garden birds in Ireland being infected with the virus, and because of their lifestyles they are unlikely to come into contact with it. It's different for nesting seabirds and wintering waterfowl that live in close proximity and at very high densities.
