With Dallas early vote now in, Crockett's path to victory looks gone. She needed 80%+ of the vote there to make up for Talarico running up margins in Austin, San Antonio, and the rural + western counties. Only got 60%.

To motivate the Crockett case further, co-authors and I have a working paper right now that shows the difficulty faced by Black women running for office. TLDR: Black women are uniquely punished by racially resentful Whites AND Black men when displaying anger. Going to be difficult to overcome.

The problem with Texas (as a Texan), is Ds have to win a plurality of Latino, White, and Black votes. As it stands, Crockett is winning the Black vote up 45 and east, while Talarico is winning White plains and Latinos along the border. Still too early but Dallas (and the missing votes) will be key.

Doing well. The job market was rough, but I'm staying positive. I won't be at MPSA, but I will be at APSA. Hope you are doing well too.

Personally, I think there was some value to PoliSciRumors that got ruined by the lack of content moderation/racism/sexism/etc.. More live interaction for job market folks with moderation would be of value akin to GradCafe. Potentially could also have former committee members have live Q&As.

Too many lives cut short, families torn apart over the promise of education in America. It’s a tragedy. My heart goes out to Brown and their students, faculty, administrators, and parents.

I come from a family of educators, and my concern for my students, my partner’s students, and their families is chronic every school year. It does not have to be this way. It’s a choice.

Why does climate finance routinely stall between promise and delivery? Fiona Bare's job market paper shows how dual features of climate finance - mixed public-private benefits and pervasive uncertainty - create strategic frictions between donors and recipients that delay dealmaking.

Race and Ethnic Politics - Google Groups

It's been bugging me that we don't have a general REP listserv since the last one blew up, so I made a new google group. Just click the below link and click the "Join Group" button. Please share with other REP folks freely.

I want to say that I CAN believe what is happening to my undocumented people, Mexican or not.

The political impulse to forcibly remove folks for wanting to work and live in the US has always been with us. Now the rest of you get to see it in real time. We haven’t been exaggerating.
