1970-OTD Tom “Terrific” Seaver of the #NewYorkMets struck out 19 San Diego Padres in a day game at Shea Stadium, then an NL record. His catcher, Jerry Grote, set a new record for 20 putouts in a game. Seaver struck out the last 10 Padres in a row. Simply Amazin’.

1989- the iconic Baseball movie, Field of Dreams, premiered OTD. Many argue it is the best Baseball movie of all time (I lean towards the Natural), but that last scene of a boy and his Dad playing catch gets me every single time. Bravo!👏🏻🎥⚾️⚾️🇺🇸

1862-OTD the iconic microbiologist Louis Pasteur beta tested his “Pasteurization” process on raw cows milk to sterilize it. The process worked and has subsequently saved many lives from TB and other diseases. Would that our current HHS director celebrate instead of denigrate the discovery.🙏🏻😞🇫🇷

They need a change beyond what they can do with the lineup. Is Soto returning anytime soon?

1943-OTD,Jews dwelling in the Warsaw Ghetto, upon learning of the SS plan to level the ghetto and kill or deport all residents to concentration camp, rose nearly a month under the leadership of Mordechai Anielewicz. The uprising failed but showed the world the Jews could fight back.😞🙏🏻✡️

1942-OTD Col Jimmy Doolittle launched carrier based bombers on a long range mission to bomb Tokyo. Occurring just 4 mos after the Pearl Harbor disaster, the raid was a psychological message to Japan that the USA was going to defeat their Empire. Japan had “awakened the sleeping giant.” 🇺🇸👏🏻🙏🏻

I can’t see anything positive on the horizon for the Mets except McLean starts

The Pitt is beyond brilliant

What are we gonna do. McLean and Peralta are the only pitchers we can trust. The lineup stinks. Not a formula for success

Today was the 1884 bday of tragic Jewish businessman Leo Frank. He had established a factory in Atlanta but was falsely accused of the murder of a young factory worker. Subsequently evidence seemed 2 show a janitor did the deed. But Frank was lynched by an antisemitic mob.The oldest hatred won again.

But we can’t expect him to do it all. And we need him to go to #3 or 4 in the lineup.

(2) ..He said that’s a great goal, but whatever I did I should cherish my time in school. & that I should be active in sports if opportunities arose. I never forget how generous with his time he was. I saw him play in 1957 in his last year but his performance off the field was more impactful for me.

Remembering the tragic sinking of the “Unsinkable” #Titanic OTD in 1912. The ice berg that carved an opening in the ships hull spawned many books and movies trying to describe the horror of that night and the many design mistakes and human errors that worsened the tragedy.😞

(1)The beginning of the American Revolution featured the battle of Lexington and Concord, where the shot heard around the world was consummated. But the real shot heard around the world was the one OTD IN 1865 from the Derringer that John Wilkes Booth used to assassinate President Lincoln. .

Remembering what would’ve been 100th bday of comedian Don Adams. With the creative team of Mel Brooks & Buck Henry behind him,he created the character of Maxwell Smart agent 86 of the fictitious spy organization CONTROL. Along with Barbara Feldon & Ed Platt, #GETSMART was a terrific TV comedy. BRAVO!
