'Terrified of a rent increase': How Labour's housing benefit cuts are hitting renters
The government froze local housing allowance, which effectively meant a real-terms cut to housing benefit. www.bigissue.com/news/housing...

This is awful news. One of the original legal bloggers and one of the very best. nearlylegal.co.uk/2026/04/gile...
Very sad to hear about @nearlylegal.co.uk . As I told him once, at the other place, he was one of my hero.
Longtemps que je souhaitais revenir sur ce sujet : la "routine" qui s'impose à la frontière franco-britannique.
Celle des passages, des violences contre les personnes exilées mais une autre également : la routine médiatique.
Merci @arretsurimages.net !

NEW: More than 160,000 private renters on low incomes face rent shortfalls worth up to hundreds or even thousands of pounds a year due to Labour’s housing benefit cuts
Greater Manchester and the West Midlands are particularly badly hit

Why not this version of "My Way". After all, it was a French singer who wrote the song

It would have all make us a favour if the day the Mendelsohn story/vetting issue came out was the day BlueSky was down
As a EU national living in the UK, I would love UK to rejoin, but I prefer they don't
Screenshot of a tweet: God Save Great Britain & @GSGB01 WOW: The NHS has ordered staff not to use the phrase 'It's raining cats & dogs' in fear of upsetting people from other cultures and religion. Britain has gone absolutely
Screenshot of a tweet: @Jenny_1884 The NHS has ordered staff not to use the term "It's raining cats & dogs" as it may offend foreigners. Tough If you don't like it jog on is what I think The NHS needs to get back to concentrating on making people better & not being more concerned about offending
For the love of God, could the "common sense" brigade PLEASE develop some actual COMMON SENSE?!
No, the NHS has not ordered staff not to use the term "it's raining cats and dogs" for fear of either upsetting or offending anyone...
Please engage your brains for a minute🙏

I have to say, most doctors/consultants nowadays treat you as adults, but it was not always the case.
I have to say that "raining cats and dogs" is something I can deal with, but when I was asked "did you pass water", or "did you open your bowels", I did not have a clue what the question was all about.
The government has been told to do far more to place people with learning difficulties and autistic people at the heart of its controversial Mental Health Act reforms.

BBC today correct Nigel Farage's false claim to Nick Robinson on Political Thinking (13th February 2026) that net migration was only down due to an "exodus" of people leaving the UK since 90% of net migration fall was a fall in immigration. After my 3rd complaint!

It did manage to cut in half the Universal Credit health element
Listening to "How the government and the DWP made PIP policy on the fly" at www.buzzsprout.com/2414550/epis...
The PIP cuts failed, but the government did manage to get through savage cuts to Universal Credit disability benefits for new claimants, which kicked in earlier this month
A bit of a rarity here - I was interviewed by the brilliant @katebelgrave.bsky.social for her podcast, talking about the government's calamitous attempts to cut PIP:

The story about fraud in the Asylum system is a mirror image of what is happening with people on benefits. A few cases are singled out in the press, turning public opinion against both kind of claimants, and it always precede introduction of cuts or harsher restrictions by the government
I told this story before. When the tsunami´struck in 2004, JCB offered his services and equipment to help with reconstruction. They were not needed there, but NGOs suggested that JCB divert them to Chad, a forgotten emergency with no media coverage. JCB refused
I just caught up with the BBC story about migrants pretending to be gay. It concerns 2-3% of asylum seekers. Fraud happens in any system, but this is a non story. The BBc should be ashamed to run with this

Switch to Universal Credit is robbing thousands of ‘most vulnerable people’, reports @newjournal.bsky.social
The Government have failed to protect thousands of vulnerable people who have been forced to negotiate a complicated switch over to Universal Credit.
