Not disagreeing with Jamelle, but the issue as I see it is that anyone trying to make a sophisticated argument is de facto only talking to liberals, because only liberals are interested in sophisticated arguments

#25 in DFW doesn't look so bad until you zoom out and see, again, how much rural they connected to it - NINE entire counties, and half of two more!

(#6 too, for that matter!)

Conservatives have been trained for decades to think of Constitutions not as agreed-upon rules for fair governance, but as a series of cheat codes and loopholes that let them hold power even when the voters want to throw them out. They won't accept anything less than permanent domination of us.

I suspect that this is the energy that Dem primary voters are looking for right now:

1 year ago today I was terminated by DOGE from USAID where I worked to get humanitarian aid into Gaza. Everyone I knew across almost 10 years of my career across 3 prior jobs became unemployed as well. My entire LinkedIn network suddenly became "open to work"

I'm a one issue voter. Punishment.

Say what you will about the worst members of the Roberts Court, but they all make sure their wives are in on the grift.

Jane Roberts, Martha Alito and Ginni Thomas are equal partners with their husbands in the grand project of destroying the United States and enriching themselves in the process.

What you have to understand is that the United States started a war, almost immediately lost it, then began the laborious process of negotiating against itself, and is now settling into the secondary denial phase …

I don’t think we talk nearly enough about the fact that corporations like Amazon, don’t pay a single cent to maintain the roads they use, the transportation system they use, the courts they use, they pay nothing for the infrastructure that is absolutely critical to their business.

WE Pay for

Because we get asked a lot.

The Technological Republic, in brief.

1. Silicon Valley owes a moral debt to the country that made its rise possible. The engineering elite of Silicon Valley has an affirmative obligation to participate in the defense of the nation.

2. We must rebel against the tyranny of the apps. Is the iPhone our greatest creative if not crowning achievement as a civilization? The object has changed our lives, but it may also now be limiting and constraining our sense of the possible.

3. Free email is not enough. The decadence of a culture or civilization, and indeed its ruling class, will be forgiven only if that culture is capable of delivering economic growth and security for the public.

4. The limits of soft power, of soaring rhetoric alone, have been exposed. The ability of free and democratic societies to prevail requires something more than moral appeal. It requires hard power, and hard power in this century will be built on software.

Palantir put out a 22-point summary of their CEO's book The Technological Republic. It's pitched as a defence of the West, but if you read it through the VDA framework, verification, deliberation, accountability, what it's actually doing looks rather different.

need the Judiciary Act of 2029 to come in like a freight train

In thinking about what to do about the rogue Court, we maybe focus a bit too much on court packing yes or no, granted that's the most important. But some of the less sexy things can be done by more mundane statutory fixes. Congress could, and should, nuke the shadow docket.

Just sobbed hardest I have since my mom died in 2020.

She missed these trials by a few months.

One of most ruthless cancers. Hard to fathom that maybe she'd still be here.

I feel such a hole inside.

In case you're wondering if we should fund mRNA research instead of another stupid war ... yes.

Learn whatever you want about "law," it doesn't matter because GOP Justices blew up the entire process of deciding cases based on chats with rich friends and stuff they watched on TV. That was the entire basis on which SCOTUS switched to the shadow docket.

the thing is that Chinese espionage is much less competent than people often think, a lot of it is bumbling provincial policeman stuff or MSS guys trying to use the same techniques overseas as at home. but that doesn't matter if your opposition is led by Kash Patel.

Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons is leaving the Department of Homeland Security DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin announced the move Thursday evening and wished Lyons well.

Todd Lyons led a secret police force for Trump where masked agents attacked our own American streets, violated Constitutional rights, and shot our own citizens.

We’ll hold you accountable too.

This could be a PhD thesis but the movie did not explore his obsession with domination, with Roman emperors, with addiction and looks, with human psychology (I used to pass him coming/going to William James Hall), etc. It portrayed him as a speed-talking, witty, yet still sympathetic buffoon, not...
