Cover of Notes & Records showing Newton's beer mug.
Very happy to receive a hard copy of 'Isaac Newton’s pint flagon: beer, veneration, and the history of science'. Free to access here doi.org/10.1098/rsnr... (full disclosure - I'm mentioned in the acknowledgements) @royalsocietypublishing.org
Cooler in a store with American brands of adjunct lager.
Look at all that Mexican lager:
But if it’s labeled Mexican Lager or Japanese Rice Lager, it sells.
5/x We got over the lager ignorance. I’m sure we can get over the labeling.
4/x Remember, adjunct lager wasn’t created to cut costs. It was created because US barley wasn’t great for brewing. The adjunct lager was actually more expensive. (H/T Maureen Ogle.)
3/x It’s that time of year when US brewers start releasing Mexican Lagers that have no meaningful connection to Mexico. It’s unfortunate because it buries a US heritage that we should be proud of.
2/x But we finally got over it and started drinking lager. Yet, we still can’t allow ourselves to identify as American Adjunct Lager. Or American Lager. Or, just Lager. It has to be Mexican Lager.
1/3 US craft brewers largely avoided making lager for a long time in an attempt to distance itself from domestic, mass produced swill.
The mass produced swill was actually expertly brewed adjunct lager. The kind of lager US breweries have been making since the 1800s and brought to Mexico.
I’m realizing now that this post may have been about more than actual tacos 🤦♂️
And, is it just me, or is this the unofficial taco of Taco Tuesday? There was once a time I hated on it, but it’s damn good. (As I to this picture, my daughter said, “taking a picture of your white person taco?”)
It was me.
That is sad. FWIW, I periodically check in on dcbeer.com and listen to the pod. Though I don’t make it to DC often, it’s great stuff. Well done and interesting. I often think that it would be awesome if all cities had similar efforts.
Thank you! I’ll stick around a little longer.
Things to seriously contemplate when my annual Squarespace renewal approaches.
I should note, the photography was by Sean McEmerson.
A variety of beer glasses on a table in a pub.
I need a break from drinkware soon, but I love this picture from a @willhawkes.bsky.social story that was in @pelliclemag.com last month. www.pelliclemag.com/home/2026/3/...
Thanks, @boakandbailey.bsky.social
Nonetheless, in my opinion, I don’t think the badge makes much of a difference. It’s a terrible mug either way.
Maybe common wasn’t the right word. But I’ve been told by others that they’re not used in the UK, yet I see them pop up from time to time in my feed. I wouldn’t be surprised if this glass sold by Arcoroc and called Britannia isn’t partially responsible.
Historically, no. Tübs probably didn’t either. But they’re more common these days. Here’s one from Runaway.
That’s 100-percent Tübinger. It has the badge in front for a logo, which the British style mugs also have.

Late day post. Another one about Czech drinkware from someone who has never set foot in the country. www.casketbeer.com/home/2026/4/...
Image of a stemmed Gaffel Kölsch glass on a bar.
Speaking of glassware, they’re claiming this isn’t an April Fools’ prank.
We have probably close to, if not more than 100 Lukr faucets in New York City alone, which is great, but if I could choose, I’d rather have my lager in a slew of other glasses instead of that shit British-style knock off over a pour from a Lukr faucets.
Looks like a tasty mug of beer! Really, my biggest gripe is with ignorant/lazy American breweries and publicans who can’t be bothered to properly appreciate drinkware. Ppl go wild over Lukr faucets, but can’t seem to figure out beer mugs.

Match the state with its local drinking preferences. (Click the link for the answers.)
Colorado, Montana, New York, Ohio, Oregon:
• Scottish ales
• IPAs
• cream ale
• traditional UK Styles
• light lagers
Yes, America does have (some) regional variation in beer preferences.
April Fools’ Day social media posts have gotten more and more annoying over the years. Now, AI is making them even worse. 🤦♂️ Please, stop.
