Mamdani’s policies hit on a personal level. Last month, Mamdani came over to my house late at night. He banged on the door so loud it woke up my neighbor’s dog. I came to the door and said Hey why are you knocking so loud. He walked right past me and entered my house without even waiting for me to invite him in. He walked right over to the kitchen, opened my fridge, and asked if he could drink my special imported lemonades. I said he could have one, he took a single sip, said YUCK really loud, and started pouring all my lemonades down the sink. I asked him politely if he would at least give me the bottle caps for my bottle cap collection and then he demanded to see my collection. So I took him into my den and opened my velvet cases filled with antique bottlecaps. He asked me to read the lettering on the first one but when I brought it close to my face so I could read it he just pushed it right into my face. While I was distracted from this he knocked over all the bottlecaps onto the floor and told me to clean them up. I got on my hands and knees trying to carefully collect each of the bottlecaps and rearrange them and he started accusing me of eating the bottlecaps. I *don’t* eat the bottlecaps I pleaded. But he continued to laugh and then he made me eat the most expensive one.

About a week later he called me on the phone to apologize for this incident. He told me that to make it up to me he wanted to take me out to dinner at my favorite restaurant, Jongo’s. I agreed. When I got to the restaurant I realized he had invited everyone from my life to the other tables: coworkers, family, friends, influential bloggers, people I had met at bottlecap conventions. Even Brad Lander was there. After ordering a glass of wine for everyone he stood up and initiated a toast. At first I was flattered but then his toast took a dark turn. He started telling everyone how I eat bottlecaps. When I protested he made me stand up and handed me the cork from the wine. The entire room started chanting: eat it, eat it, eat it! I have never felt so much peer pressure in my life. I ate the cork and the whole room laughed at me. They put the whole thing in the newspaper and also on the local channel one news. There is a big picture of the event on the wall at Jongo’s now and I can’t eat there without the staff making me eat bottlecaps, corks, etc. My neighbor's dog won’t even let me pet him anymore. This is why I feel like New York City needs different leadership.
