The MBTA announced Tuesday that it would extend service on all subway lines
"by about one hour" on Fridays and Saturdays starting Aug. 24. Trains now typically begin their final runs between midnight and 1 a.m.

Most MBTA buses operate between 5 a.m. and 1 a.m., according to the agency; some start earlier or end later.
And for one month beginning in September, all service after 9 p.m. will be free on Friday and Saturday nights.
