England's social housing has been allowed to dwindle away, with eight times more council homes being sold this year than were built.
Without action, we are consigning millions of households to being stuck on waiting lists and the burden of housing benefit continues to grow.

House building slumps to lowest level since 2020 sees job losses and falling confidence in Labour’s plans to fix the housing crisis.
Latest figures[1] from the construction industry show a sustained and deepening decline in housebuilding in the UK as the slowdown reaches depths not seen since early 2020.The lack of confidence in the sector is resulting in lay-offs and recruitment freezes.
Green Party Spokesperson, Cllr Matthew Snedker said; “The housing crisis is one symptom of the cost of living crisis. Houses remain at historically high prices[2], with most people finding house ownership unaffordable, as wages fail to keep pace with house price inflation. It’s no surprise that house building is stalling when people simply can’t afford to save for deposits when they are struggling to get by”
Most worrying is the slowing down of new work in the pipeline. New orders have fallen for eight months in a row. Even big names in the industry are starting to see their order books dwindle.
This long term downward trend has led to construction companies seeing subdued market conditions, heightened business uncertainty and growing risk aversion among clients.
Cllr Snedker continued “The housing crisis is causing very real damage to communities up and down the country. A record 169,050 children are now homeless in temporary accommodation in England[3], a 12% increase on last year. Homelessness has long-lasting consequences for children with families regularly placed out of area, far away from their school, GP and community. The educational attainment, health and development of homeless children plummets when they become homeless.[4]
“This is the perfect time to take advantage of falling borrowing costs by increasing the supply of public housing. Replacing the 1.4 million social homes lost since 1980[5] would reduce people’s housing costs, bring

job security to tradespeople and inject much needed confidence into the construction industry.
“The Green Party’s Right Homes, Right Place, Right Price Charter[6] would provide 150,000 new social homes every year through new build and the purchase of ex-council housing stock. It would give local authorities right to buy powers for several categories of property and make sure we keep social homes for local communities in perpetuity.”

Having done Bikeability training in UK, they recommend to cycle in seconday position as routine, but to take primary when approaching junctions, obstructions such as parked cars, pinch-points, pedestrian crossings etc. to prevent overtaking when there isn't space for a vehicle behind to safely do so

Nigel Farage's inauguration party was sponsored by Arron Banks & the "New Federal State of China". That's an organisation set up Steve Bannon & Guo Wengui that considers itself "the Chinese government in exile".

Nope, nothing to see here.

Thames Water pumps sewage into chalk stream for 1,000 hours Pollution has created a ‘coating of brown sewage sludge’ on the River Ver

Thames Water released raw sewage into a chalk stream for more than 1,000 hours over the past 6 weeks.

Execs will get a bonus. The company wants to pay higher dividends, record hike in customer prices.

Regulators do nothing. Govt can end the scam by nationalisation, but won't.

The recommended cycling location is 75cm-1m away from the kerb, both for reasons of avoiding debris in the gutter, but also so you're where a car's kerbside wheel would be - so the driver is more likely to look where they expect to see a vehicle, and see you (so as not to hit you)! Take more space.

Labour MPs ordered to sink landmark climate and environment bill Exclusive: Supporters of bill say Labour has already insisted on removal of clauses requiring UK to meet targets agreed at Cop and other summits

If true, what Labour front bench is doing is unforgivable. The #CANBill is essential & has backing of huge number of experts, scientists, unions & enjoys cross-party support. If backbench Labour MPs ever consider rebelling against leadership on anything, let it be this - a liveable future for all 👇

Yes! Along with so many other factors that don't inspire hope amongst teenagers that the rest of their lives can be any different: competition to be "the best", a (mainstream) culture that says there's no way to influence and change things for the better politically / socially. We MUST inspire hope!

When a government tells us, within the course of one week, that we can't have new hospitals but must have new runways, you know that it is not working on our behalf, but on behalf of economic power.
