This would be a "Let them eat cake" scenario for the modern age. As per usual, those already enduring hardship will be most utterly devastated, whilst the empowered elite remain insulated from the fallout. Regrettably, when the US regurgitates, the rest of the world are all forced to taste it.

The reality is that banking institutions globally would face immediate insolvency, which explains the current hesitation. Whilst nations are clearly hedging their positions, it remains a precarious strategy; should the Federal Reserve falter, the global economy will suffer profoundly.

Spot on. I could have composed a comprehensive dissertation on the cataclysmic implications of a global divestment from US Treasuries, were I not constrained by this rather parsimonious character limit 😉

Think of it this way: If the world were to 'dump' their US treasuries, those who are already suffering (in the US) will be beyond devastation. Trump&Co have filled their pockets, they will not be affected, & quite frankly, do not care about those less fortunate. 'Let them eat cake'

As risks multiply in a world thirsty for energy, diversification and cooperation are more urgent than ever - News - IEA As risks multiply in a world thirsty for energy, diversification and cooperation are more urgent than ever - News from the International Energy Agency

World Energy Outlook 2025

In short, over coming decades, increasing demand for electricity in India, SE Asia, Middle East, Africa and Latin America will drive increasing demand for oil & gas and growth in renewables.

That means more CO2, methane, global heating and climate change impacts. ☹️ #COP30

Come to the dark side 😉 - we have health care, low tuition (if at all) vocational training and apprenticeships. Unfortunately, affordable housing is a global issue.

Ethical alternatives: brands to buy from if you boycott Israeli apartheid | Ethical Consumer Boycotting brands that are complicit in Palestinian human rights violations is a powerful form of consumer activism, but how ethical is the product you buy instead?

"Ethical alternatives: brands to buy from if you boycott Israeli apartheid."

Please, join us in boycotting israel. Do it for Palestine. Do it for humanity. And also do it because capitalism and imperialism suck! And also, support Ethical Consumer.

In 1987, a management consultancy concluded that the Netherlands should aim for a coal economy by 2050 ('cheap and abundant'). At Ecofys, we were surprised: can't be, we'd ruin our climate.
CO2 was at 350 ppm, global temperature at +0.6°C.
Now, 38 years later, I read: first tipping point reached.

The bbc focussing on what the ceasefire means for the hostages way more than what it means for Gazans, again seeing that disproportionately we’ve become accustomed to for years, this isn’t new, and it’s certainly not ok

which is vital for the survival of the civilian population—is a matter of public concern and, frankly, a failure of international diplomacy. The withholding of such critical support directly contravenes humanitarian principles & necessitates immediate & resolute action from the global community.

The ongoing obstruction of essential, life-saving aid destined for #Gaza by way of #UNRWA must be viewed as profoundly regrettable. That world leaders have collectively been unable to exert sufficient pressure to ensure the unimpeded and consistent flow of this aid—

For two years too long, people in #Gaza have been going through forced displacement.

No place is safe in Gaza.

One finds oneself pondering the curious state of American education. A curious institution indeed, where it seems the lines have been rather catastrophically blurred. One would hope their esteemed schools could manage to teach the difference between a bibliophile and a pa*dophile 😒

Forget what you know about post offices. In Kyrgyzstan, posts are a model for what a community should be. I reviewed a project that’s transforming them into vibrant community hubs with co-working desks, EV stations, & even mini-clinics all powered via solar! It's time we think bigger than stamps✉️📦📯
