In the most recent episode I talk to author/historian @emmasouthon.bsky.social about slavery in the Roman world. We get into Rome's addiction to human bondage, history's lost voices, and the slippery figure of Spartacus! Check it out

You know how you have some scary movies where there's a child, and they have a demon inside them or something, and the demon acts up if the child gets upset and does something bad?
It's like that in our place, except the child is a cat, and the demon is her bum.

I am just a Librarian, despairing at how many people on Facebook are using screenshots of the Google AI overview to prove a point.
Not enough sassy robots.
What I should have said was, "Wow, I THOUGHT there was an uptick in flaming bags of poop on my doorstep around that time..."
In the heyday of Poe's Law, I'm pretty forgiving.
Your editor sounds like a real prick. A smart handsome one. But awful, just awful.
I had one of my best friends read my work and provide feedback, and this was almost exactly the process we followed.
As an illustration, 3 promo sales vs 1 full price sale. And those three were at $1.99, not $.99 like most authors.
So $12 ain't nothin'.

And there's only one seat in the theater.
Gotcha. Yeah, it's a real process to get your work in front of eyeballs that are predisposed to weed you out.
The small presses I was (am?) querying in Canada would take about 6-8 months. By that point I've written a whole other book and the bounce time was depressing.
It's a deliberate tactic by conservatives to diminish their opponents by not using their honorifics. In Canada, conservatives and other arseholes called Trudeau "Justin" for years. Got to be an easy shorthand to spot tools who were best avoided.
Not chanting now.

Holy. Shit. This is Reid Wiseman's video he took with his iPhone while at the moon 🌙
I’ve had the same editor since 1967. Many times he has said to me over the years or asked me, Why would you use a semicolon instead of a colon? And many times over the years I have said to him things like: I will never speak to you again. Forever. Goodbye. That is it. Thank you very much. And I leave. Then I read the piece and I think of his suggestions. I send him a telegram that says, OK, so you’re right. So what? Don’t ever mention this to me again. If you do, I will never speak to you again

They'll go back to roughing up the team again. Just standard practice when playing teams that have some smaller elite players.
Worst part is it works.
It's tough, too, with this playoff format. Teams bust their asses all year, get over a 100 points, then they have to play the team next to them who also have 100 points and don't even get home ice advantage for their great season.
A meme in the style of Windows virtual assistant Clippy, but instead of an anthropomorphic paperclip, there is a Korok from the video game franchise The Legend of Zelda. Koroks are weird little leaf guys who say “Yahaha! You found me!” when they are discovered in the Zelda game Tears of the Kingdom, so this one is depicted with the Clippy-style speech balloon saying, “Yahaha! You found a spelling mistake!”—an Autokorok, if you will.
Behold some of my finest pun work—the Autokorok.

As an author & multi-genre reader, I know not every genre is for everyone.
Some can’t handle murder in the news, let alone in thrillers. Some want romance, not details. Some find real life scary & avoid horror. Others escape into fantasy.
Find your audience. They’re out there.

TIL Harvey Fierstein, playwright, actor, gay icon for the ages, has now reinvented himself as a quilter. He's posting videos on Facebook of his quilting. He's really quite spectacular at it.
It's never too late to find your next thing.
Feels more like the small sales than the large Farmers' Market or the Lions' Club sale.
And agreed on the resellers. Unfortunately, that culture has permeated pretty much every corner of thrifting and collecting.
Never anything I want for RSD, but I would go to a few extra sales every now and then.
This was a Sunday morning at 9AM. I look back and see my missus waiting 20 feet away. Said some ass had basically elbowed her outta the way. She hasn't gone to a sale since. And our record player is hers.
I'll be your token Newfoundlander :) -- and also try to snag a couple others.
I've actually had the form half filled out and then realized I needed to get some of my covers and marketing in order. I'll get my head out of my rear end shortly.
