@jchianello.bsky.social gets lots right in this post. My own thoughts are here, in case a live deputation doesn’t work out (in part bc the city didn’t meet its own rules for timing). open.substack.com/pub/toondree...

Not good ... but Coun. Brockington's questions of transit staff today were excellent. Why did OC Transpo not communicate the "additional damage" to trains before today? Unbelievable
It took me days to get my head around the $400M Ottawa-BCH deal being discussed at the joint-committee meeting tomorrow. I have many questions. open.substack.com/pub/jchianel...
Congratulations to The Good Companions on 70 years of keeping seniors active and involved in our community.

Félicitations à The Good Companions pour ces 70 années passées à aider les aînés à rester actifs et impliqués dans notre communauté.

I 100% believe in speed cameras and it’s shameful they were taken down by this provincial government. But there wasn’t one at the intersection where the crossing guard was killed. Just want to set the record straight.
Earlier today I said there had been a speed camera at the intersection where this tragic incident occurred. That was incorrect. I support speed cameras as part of safer streets — and I also believe in being transparent when I make a mistake. ottawacitizen.com/news/barrhav...
Crossing guards are guardians of an invaluable public trust. My sincerest condolences to Peter Clark's family and friends. His loss is a tragedy felt by our entire city, and perhaps especially the Barrhaven community. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

As you say, the green bin program is still the responsibility of the city. Four weeks for a replacement seems excessive!
An honour and pleasure to speak with Peter MacLeod on his thought-provoking and important book on participatory democracy. Highly recommend for anyone interested in making democracy work better - by including the public in more direct and genuine ways!

Elmdale's Bookfest is on all weekend! As always, it's busy, the selection is great and all your neighbours are there...
Le festival du livre d'Elmdale se déroule tout le week-end ! Comme toujours, il y a foule, le choix est excellent et tous vos voisins sont là…
Well, it’s in the paper, so I guess I’m actually running! Really enjoyed speaking with Charlie Senack at the Kitchissippi Times #ottnews
“Carney has been clear: the assumptions Canadians have held about our closest ally are outdated…Our elbows are up, but where are we to stand in response to the crisis? It’s time to show Canadians how they can help — and how together we can hold the line.” Great piece by @petermacleod.bsky.social.
Cost for sure … but I also think engineering/feasibility will be a major factor (which is relate to cost, of course, but also physical risks … we all remember the Rideau sinkhole)
This week, a resident in our community died and 19 others lost their homes after a fire broke out in their small apartment building. Hintonburg Community Association has launched a fund to help, if you'd like to donate: hintonburg.com/community-fi... #ottnews
Real question @glengower.ca : Do the delays around launching LRT East Stage 2 have anything to do with not being able to have enough working trains operating on an extended system? #ottnews
I hope we can see some security measures at 1041 (and other buildings where people feel unsafe) in the near future!
I was glad to spend time with seniors at 1041 Wellington West over tea, and hear directly from them about their safety concerns.
Everyone deserves to feel safe in their community, and that’s something we can work towards together.
It's been 4 YEARS since two LRT trains derailed and we still don't have a fix. We don't even know the root cause of this problem. Where is the accountability on this huge project? More important, when can riders start relying on our LRT system? #ottnews

Excited about the launch of @petermacleod.bsky.social’s new book, Democracy’s Second Act! It’s written for everyone worried about polarization & the growing sense of frustration with politics. Sign up for Ottawa book launch with @jchianello.bsky.social on Feb 12th! www.eventbrite.ca/e/book-launc...
I love how this video by @jleiper.bsky.social shows how a seemingly technical issue like the comprehensive zoning bylaw has a direct impact on our quality of life. It’s one of the many reasons why City Hall matters!

Some heavy lifting by council’s planning members on a plan years in the making. Tune into the final decision in January! (Because who isn’t thinking about the final CZB debate during the holidays?)
The most Council fun of the season! Good pipes on some
of our elected officials!

Will be interested in examining the details of this announcement - and how much it will cost the city - but looks like good news for affordable housing in Ottawa!
