Smart.
The thing about older adults, especially those over age 80, is that they can absolutely be in good health and still drop dead the next day.
We have too many 80+ hanging on to these positions of power. It prevents younger folks from moving up, and creates crisis situations when they suddenly die.

ATLANTA (AP) — US Rep. David Scott, a Georgia Democrat seeking his 13th term in Congress, has died at age 80.
“Immunity for me, but not for thee.”
This.
Was just having a conversation with a friend and we were decrying the lack of media that is meeting the moment. Hard for us, as we have both consumed a lot of news. This is helpful info if you are searching for reliable information.
Trump is feeling his vulnerability. No one might ever hold him accountable, but he will not escape aging. It is an equalizer, always. A horrible injury for a narcissist.

And endless.
Brown paper bag on a brown leather seat. There is a sticker on the bag that reads, “No Ketchup Never Ever.”
Eating dinner on the fly tonight in Chicago and Jimmy’s Red Hots in Humboldt Park does not play.

Senator Carol Moseley Braun would like a word.
😂
Holy cow. The opening anecdote here tells you the story is going to be a Friday evening doozy that rocks DC.
Also lol at the FBI Director routinely getting hammered in a Vegas joint called The Poodle Room. 😚 👌
America is losing a talented researcher today.
Rümeysa Öztürk, whose abduction by masked men prompted a search and her eventual release by ICE, has returned to Turkey. She wants to resume a career without "state-imposed violence and hostility."

The Trump administration plans to offer at least 400,000 acres in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for oil and gas drilling rights in June, marking its first such sale in the rugged area prized for its rich wildlife
That is the perfect reason to forget a meetings. What a gift.
Wowwwwwwww
♥️
Post the best picture you have ever taken of your pet.
Honestly, her hair is another red flag. She is now sporting that obvious MAGA rug-like look that is clearly extensions.
This is definitely the more colorful cousin of Chicago’s Preston Bradley Hall in the Cultural Center!
Shout out to Lurie Children’s Hospital. My kid had an unexpected emergency surgery this afternoon. Everyone from the valet to the surgeon were top notch. Kind, friendly, compassionate. We spent A LOT of time there with our daughter from 2007-2009, but can confirm they are still the best of Chicago.
My hometown! ♥️
And just learned that he was hospitalized today after ODing on a live stream. 😔
A Tokyo street in the morning, waking up. Residential units on top of ground level restaurants or businesses. Wires everywhere. People walking in the middle of the street, as there is minimal car traffic.
Busy street in the Shibuya district of Tokyo. The shopping and signage is vertical. Pedestrian only street, so no cars.
A residential street in Kyoto, Japan. The street dead ends at a large temple. Electrical wires every which way, strung above, connecting buildings. A man in the foreground walking towards the temple.
Layers of natural beauty in the countryside outside Kyoto. In the foreground is a blooming plum tree, then a line of blooming cherry trees, with a ridge of blue mountains in the far distance.
Just a few favorite snaps I took. They help me recall the livability, which was apparent, in such a huge city as Tokyo (and, to a lesser degree, Kyoto). The collective pact of consideration for others and the layers of beauty, both natural and man made. I am so glad to have visited.
Ohmygodthis
In Michigan, my aunt, a nun, learned that her religious order that had operated a respected 4 year college had been told of the board’s decision last year to close it this spring. That community, I think, will be less able to absorb the loss. A modern American tragedy with, yes, ripple effects.
My in-laws live in Amherst, MA and my FIL is a former professor at Hampshire College. Gratefully, that area has other (larger) institutions that can absorb the closure (maybe), but the campus holds a lot of community events. Our kids went to summer camp there. Am curious about how this unfolds. 1/2
