Law profs/students/anyone doing legal scholarship:
If you're not using @zotero.org to manage cites and research, you should. An unbelievable time saver.
I've revised the Bluebook style for rendering footnotes, w/ detailed instructions on using Zotero:

A photograph from a campsite in the Boundary Waters overlooking a lake at sunset, the water is still and strips of lavender and blue sky are reflected in it. The edge of a kevlar canoe can be seen at the lower right hand corner, a tree frames the picture from the left
A pox on anyone who had or will have a hand in wrecking the Boundary Waters.

Fun fact, the original yom hashoah was during pesach - many old kibbutz haggadahs include the partisan song and shoah poems (I think Shlonski's The Vow was in the official kibbutz haartzi haggadah in fact). I think it's only once Israel concretized a separate day that they moved away from it.
And just to be clear, Arabic is still a required class in middle school in Hebrew-speaking schools in Israel. It's not enough to actually make the language usable, but it's still there.
Ffs if there's a language that modern Israel as a state is antagonistic to it's Arabic, not Yiddish. And even then it's not bans on speaking/writing (though I'm sure some MKs would love to try!)
Could you refuse? I had a similar situation a while back when referred to a specialist clinic and got pretty annoyed at the dark patterns in the forms, but it wasn't actually required in order to proceed iirc

Few words on this Yom Hashoah. So many lost that they become symbols, but loss is first and foremost personal: about who they could have been and aren't, who we could have been and can never be because they are lost to us. So, here's a family story in two pictures.

(I am intentionally *not* engaging with the earlier conversation about whether law is code - this is specifically a comment about the tool as it stands and its usefulness for the kinds of applications detailed in the examples)
...as opposed to an easier way to navigate the law. Further, I find some of the implied conclusions (esp. in E8) wrong and potentially confusing for anyone starting with them.
Granted, I haven't looked through everything provided, but these things jumped out at me immediately in my browsing.
I write this because I think this is a neat tool that could be useful if adopted in a limited way.
I'm in the "interdisciplinary convos are really important" camp (my jsd dissertation was partially on law and psych!), but here I'm not seeing what deeper insights we get about the law...
It may well be that fair use needs modernization, or even a statutory rewrite, but I don't think you can ground any kind of analysis on the fact that it hasn't been touched legislatively without looking at what courts have done with it.
Specifically concerning fair use: it was quite intentionally codified in a very broad way and left up to courts to interpret, and in fact, at least in theory this is what makes it more able to accommodate new "assumptions about technology or markets"
The conclusion is then that maybe fair use needs to be reviewed.
But this exactly exemplifies why this is a very limited way to view the law: the fact that it hasn't been touched tells us very little about whether it's the most or least pressing revision.
In E8, the purpose is to analyze stale vs active sections to pinpoint which should be amended, and the conclusion reached is that fair use factors have remained mostly untouched since 1976, while other provisions, more directly tied to specific technology, are constantly updated.
The purported use case of E2 is determining when a particular work enters the public domain, but the steps detailed won't actually give me a precise answer? There are a bunch of additional conditions that are relevant. It would be much more straightforward to use specific preexisting tools, e.g:
Second, and more relevantly I think, at least some of the example use cases don't make sense to me. This might be part of how non intuitive it is to me, but offering this here from a more academic perspective: I'll walk through two of the test cases to explain.
First up - I like the tool for what it is. It's cool to be able to navigate the redlining this way. It's information I've compiled myself in the past, but it's neat to have it aggregated.
It's not intuitive to me as someone who doesn't use git, and it would take me a while to make it fully usable.
I really hesitate to weigh in here, because the conversation has gotten ugly in a way I find not particularly constructive, but I took a look because the example is copyright law. I've spent hours pouring over the law & legislative record on this for my own research and I have some thoughts.
Lol I definitely learned (and still use!) +
