2025-09-03 - The Labor of Fighting Disinformation Jonny and Heather discuss the shooting at Annunciation Catholic School last week and the attemps on the Right to make the tragedy about the "mental illness" of transgender identity. In the back half of the show, in the spirit of Labor Day when the show was recorded, they lean into the impacts the current administration is having on labor in the nation. They also consider the consequences of loss of expertise in the CDC and the sciences in general all while rumors of President Trump's death circulate on the internet.

The new story is going well. I am likely gonna check with some people with a pre-beta read, to see if it connects to people. I think its great but sometimes my view is skewed. I just want to make sure that people beyond me will like the new story.

I am not a fan when a procedure to take care of pain magnifies it in the short term. Yesterday I wanted to write but using my right arm wasn't happening. It's better today and will be better still in a few days but yesterday sucked.

I'm a huge fan of how your writing just sort of punches you in the face with facts and ideas you sort of missed. Good times.

It is almost a fun place to be.

Sometimes writing is so damn annoying. I was 20k into a version of a story and thought it was going good, when I realized that I wasn't sure people would connect to the character. Some rereading and bam, new story start. At least I can save it for later. Sigh...

Stand With Trans Americans You don’t have to understand everything about the transgender experience to know that Trump’s acts of humiliation and dehumanization are unjust and dangerous.

I have included TW with some of my books but I am not great at it because the standard I use is myself and that is not the best plan. I have likely underreported some things and over reported others. But listing TW is a good idea overall and respectful of the readers.

Yay! A review!

Made it to over 20k on the new story. Nothing like being dragged back into the Black Ops community to really get the blood pumping.

Hoping to enjoy our visit to Chicago. Seems like a fun town according to the movies. Surely The Blues Brothers wouldn't lie to me.

So You Want to Be a Dissident? A practical guide to courage in Trump’s age of fear.

Crucial point made here — we should learn from others rather than imagine that everything is new and therefore shocking and impossible to resist.

Not a fan of having a new story wanting to come out but health issues get in the way. Shoulder and wrist pain while typing is not a good plan.

Wouldn't that be something. Rough to live through but that was a massively transformative year.

Hands of the Morri by Heather K. O'Malley - A truly wondrous book. It’s a rollicking fantasy novel, a strong tale of feminism and feminine friendship, a sweet romance, and a very different coming-of-age story. @heatheromalley.bsky.social

Page proofs are almost fun. Lots of fiddly little details in the hopes of catching a handful of errors. Whee!

I really enjoyed the talk that @iamseanastin.bsky.social gave last night at Saluki Con. It was wonderful and gave me hope. Thank you.

Early military writing talks about how important supplies are to a military. They pointed out that you couldn't always count on raiding the land to properly supply your forces. Bad supply lines and poor logistics is why the First Crusade turned to eating their horses and eventually cannibalism.

Painfully accurate. Logistics and bureaucracy are powerful tools in support of missions. They are utterly needed to make the military work right.
