The Los Angeles Book Review says:

"The Silent Paths of Night plunges the reader into the gloom and dread of treading the trails on a moonless night while sensing an unknown presence behind you. Slayton’s latest work pushes beyond fantasy into dark thriller territory."

Common Raven are so smart, that they'll sometime use food as a courtship novelty.
Today, I watched a pair perform aerial acrobatic, while teasing one another with an apple. #birds

it takes a high degree of emotional literacy to go "wow, I had a very intense reaction to something I'm now learning isn't based in fact, I need to interrogate that so I can flag it if it comes up again", and in our 24/7 disinformation economy many people simply choose never to accept correction

The Silent Paths of Night (Gods of Night and Day #2) From David R. Slayton, bestselling author of White Trash Warlock and Rogue Community College, comes the epic sequel to the award-winning Dark Moon, Shallow Sea. For Raef, priest of the moon goddess Phoebe and one-time thief, it was too much to hope that resurrection of the moon and his mistress might set the world aright. The Grief still chokes the docks and streets of Versinae with vampiric ghosts, while the nations of Aegea prepare to war against each other. Even worse, Phoebe did not return alone. Something evil came with her. Rerek, a demon who once waged war with the gods themselves, Corpse-Taker and sower of chaos, is back to make sure there is no peace in Aegea, now or ever again. And it has a plan. Raef and his beloved Seth, knight of the sun god Hyperion, are all that stand between Rerek and utter destruction. But the ghosts of their respective pasts, the dangers they must face, and the truths that await them will test them as nothing they've yet endured. One way or another Rerek will get what it wants ... and it will use Raef and Seth to achieve it.

My good friend @drslayton.bsky.social has the second in his Gods of Night and Day coming out in June! If you order through Denver queer woman owned shop Books Are Awesome, you can get some good swag! (But you can find it wherever books are sold!)

I ran DnD campaigns in this world for years. I homebrewed all the domains, a lot of the monsters, and even some spells. Someday I'll put together a setting guide for it.

My agents are out there pitching it. Who's your dream casting for Adam, Vic, and Argent?

I love both of their characters, but the Tempest is the more fascinating one to me. She's the spiritual leader of their people and more complex than she seems. Definitely a fun foil for Raef.

A portrait of two blue women, one with a sword and dressed like a pirate and the other as a priestess against a stained glass background in blues and greens. They are clasping hands.

Here's the final character art card for the Silent Paths of Night preorder campaign. I'm really excited about this one: the Admiral and Tempest of Tethis, who I affectionally call the Murder Lesbians. Preorders are still available at:

Finally watched Clown in a Cornfield last night. Slept on it too long. Nice mix of slasher action and comedy. I especially liked how it knew what it was doing in terms of tropes, cliches and setting up/inverting expectations. My favorite sweet spot in film or TV is smart posing as dopey.

I've got two books out this year and likely three next year. I'm still putting events together but I'll see what I can do.

Pete Hegseth removed 4 decorated Army officers—2 Black, 2 women—from a promotion list. The Army Secretary refused, calling their records exemplary. Hegseth overrode it. Possibly illegally. They gave decades to this country. He erased them & called it meritocracy.
This is white Christian nationalism.
