Great quote by Katie Hathaway. Seizing local property from our public schools & giving them to for-profit corporations is the most insane thing Florida has done in my lifetime. Nothing short of an attempt to privatize our school district with no input from local leaders & voters.

Correct me if I’m wrong but it appears Mater plans to 3X the size of Phillip Randolph rent & services free. The original date on the letters is 10/8, so DCPS has until Tuesday, 10/28 to object but only by offering other buildings but the charter corp. isn’t required to comply.

I’m sick reading the Schools of Hope details. The state of FL is attempting to seize Duval owned public school facilities & let for-profit charter corporations use them for free. DCPS must pay for all school services even though the charter corp. plans full takeovers in 5 years.

A new Florida state law is allowing out-of-town for-profit charter school corporations to use Duval County public school facilities, free of charge. Mater Academy out of Miami has submitted a proposal to start taking over A, B, C rated public schools. That was never part of the charter school deal.

'A monumental moment': How grassroots power is reshaping Florida's environmental agenda Oil drilling? Development at state parks? Sensitive land swaps? All shot down recently. Advocates are pinching themselves: Is this really Florida?

May was actually a good month for Florida’s environment. FL state parks were protected from development, the FL legislature unanimously banned oil drilling in the Apalachicola river basin & Guana was saved. Bipartisan support across the board. Great report by James Call.

Pres Trump & Mike Johnson want the federal tax code to help defund local public schools by giving tax breaks to wealthy families already enrolled in private school. 70% of FL public vouchers go to existing private school families. They’re stealing from the poor & giving the money to the 1%.

It’s a level of denial on par with the run up to the Iraq War and the idea that US housing prices will never go down. Same thing has happened in Florida for years. The corruption is so absurd that people don’t believe you.

For software engineers, we went from one of best markets for new grads (21-22) to one of the worst (24-25) in 12 months in 2023.

They are definitely that delusional to where US default is a risk.

This was one of the lines where it was obvious JD had pre-written talking points that he had practiced in the mirror before hand. An absolute disgrace to try to turn US foreign policy into one of Trump’s reality TV shows. Never too early to start talking about impeachment. 🇺🇸

The GOP’s challenge is Trump & Musk are monsters of their own creation by lying to their voters for 40 years saying the federal government doesn’t do anything productive. But like last time, the GOP is showing all they really care about are tax cuts for their donors. @dandrezner.bsky.social

Really remarkable stuff. Why would a US ally trust the Republican Party ever again?

A great 3 pack of articles if you want to better understand the German election on Sunday & Elon & Vance’s attempted involvement.
TLDR: The delivery of Vance’s speech was boorish & the context was terrible & it may backfire helping to consolidate the centrists. That or Europe is in big trouble.

Friday Finance 101: On Parfaits & Property Taxes Public preference for property taxes stands in perfect inverse relation to the public taste for parfaits. Everybody loves parfaits[i] and everybody hates property taxes.[ii] No, I don’t plan to spe…

Dear Florida - the idea of eliminating property taxes in a state with such poorly funded education to begin with and no income tax is absurd & will crush what remains of k12 schooling in FL.
A few thoughts on property taxes - they're easy to hate, but: schoolfinance101.com/2012/08/10/f...

PEPFAR Report The State Department, which administers PEPFAR, says the program has saved 25 million lives. We are an independent team of journalists, academics, and technologists who decided to investigate whether ...

Has the President’s Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) actually saved millions of lives?

We weren't sure, so we spent the last two weekends looking deeply into multiple lines of evidence. The short answer: PEPFAR saved between 7.5 and 30 million lives in the first 15 years of its existence.

From Panama, Greenland & Gaza to USAID, DoEd & CFPB this has been the weakest & most incompetent & corrupt two weeks of any US president in the history of our country with impeachable offenses happening daily. One part authoritarian takeover, one part Three Stooges episode.

It all blends together but this has to be one of the bottom 5 worst days of the Trump regime. A North Korea level response to a national tragedy & a pair of unfit nominations in qualifications, judgment & temperament in front of the Senate. Within a week and we’re back to 2020 level buffoonery.

MAGA is desperate to believe this is 1980 all over again, but the high level of delusional stupidity is actually a lot closer to 2004. Gulf of America is just freedom fries on steroids.

A fiscal conservative doesn’t pass laws they don’t want to pay for or spends taxpayer money to run political ads for a preferred outcome on constitutional amendments. Everything about the current FLGOP is worst kind of big government. Subsidizing the rich & punishing the poor.

Why are Republicans so confident Trump won’t screw it up again? Unqualified cabinet nominees, threatening NATO allies, firing another FBI director, the “External Revenue Service” & an unpopular policy plan in Project 2025. We’re a week away from an obvious lame duck dumpster fire?
