If you're at MCM, Joel is going to be here too! It's a rare live Just The Thing meetup!

Really enjoyed Thunderbolts. Good fun, with a tight script and an interesting theme. Totally works as a standalone film too.

Feels like a real missed opportunity that Tom Hardy's character in Havoc isn't called Jack Havoc.

I played that! Had some very frustrating bits but mostly I enjoyed it.

Movie you’ve watched more than six times using gifs.

(“Hard mode” no Star Wars, Star Trek, or LOTR)

The “in effect; virtually” meaning of 'literally' is not a new sense.

It has been in regular use since the 18th century and may be found in the writings of Mark Twain, Charlotte Brontë, James Joyce, and many others.

I remember watching my dad playing The Bard's Tale on the ZX Spectrum in the 80s. The first one I really got into was Ultima 5.

I was addicted to that for a while, and I think the point was you were supposed to gradually let go of the laundromat business and focus on the arcades, but I could never leave a basket of laundry sitting on the side unattended without immediately dealing with it.

No trans people were consulted on this decision that only affects trans people. In fact trans people were actively barred from consulting on this decision that only affects trans people. But transphobic bigots? Oh they got consulted for days.

Fucking grim. I'm absolutely fuming.

Just rewatched the Max Headroom TV movie, which I hadn't seen since I was a kid. The part where the guy explodes from watching concentrated ads still hits hard.

I finished Still Wakes The Deep last night. I really enjoyed it and it was technically excellent, but I would've preferred a slower build up. It's like if The Thing skipped straight from the dog exploding to the blood test scene. Better than The Rig, though.

In case you want some sweet news today.

I’m volunteering at the book fair at my kid’s school, and discovered Dav Pilkey paid for the whole thing.

For the entire school.

Every kid pre-k through fifth grade (the whole school) goes home with two free books.

Loved the first one! Was fairly late to it, played it a couple of years ago. I need to play the sequel, it's on my list!

Unsolicited advice for newbie authors attending conventions:

Do not lie to authors who are at a table selling their books. Don't fucking do it bro.

Ask for advice? Go right ahead!

Approach under false pretense of interest in our books before you reveal your real reason for talking to us? DO NOT.

In my book, Noobs, Claudia Tarley is a trans woman and famous game developer who has gone missing, until the kids in the book find her trapped inside her own game. One of the themes of the book is video games as a safe space to explore identity.

Watched The Substance tonight, second watch for me, first for my wife who loved it. I think it's excellent, fully deserving of it's award nominations and should definitely have picked up more wins. It's not subtle but there is nuance there if you look for it, and overall it's just incredibly sad.
