A wonderful panel at the Gaithersburg Book Festival along with Dr. Yohuru Williams, @lm-elliott.bsky.social, and @kimjohnson.bsky.social. All my co-panelists are doing such important work with history for young readers, and it was an honor to be in conversation with them.

I will *not* be watching the State of the Union tomorrow evening. Nothing enrages Trump more than us tuning him out. Instead, I will be viewing and contributing to the State of the People, a 24-hour livestream of counter-programming beginning this evening. Register at stateofthepeople.media.

As of today, a new term has entered our language. A “rubio” is a spineless lump of nothing. Example: Don’t be such a rubio.

I am furious that @joyannreid.bsky.social was axed from her show at MSNBC. This is what authoritarianism looks like. Toni Morrison warned us that they will go after the journalists, scholars and artists first.

Please support Joy in her next endeavors. I hope her former colleagues protest.

Today I was granted access to speak with incarcerated firefighters.

They told me:
- they hadn’t showered in 5 days
- they were not provided regularly meals
- they were working 24 hours in a row
- they feel under appreciated and underpaid

$40 million to license a documentary about the "first lady." How many people in America will die today because they couldn't afford healthcare? Zuck rolling back online protections. They're all obeying in advance and it's mind boggling.

Meta ends fact-checking, drawing praise from Trump Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg ended fact-checking on Facebook and Instagram in favor of community notes, calling the recent election a “cultural tipping point” on free speech.

I think I am more concerned about the fact that fact-checking departments at actual news organizations are few and far between over the last 10 years or so
