"we should never do litmus tests" is one of those things that consultants think sounds smart but falls apart if you think about it for two fucking seconds

what's actually happening with will stancil is what's been happening with every liberal for the last three years. they cannot admit a genocide was happening under biden and while harris was running on more of the same. so either it magically became a genocide in january of 2025 or it just isn't one

I hope everyone recognizes this as the ahistorical propaganda that it is. Europe didn’t simply “plug in to existing slave trading networks”.

Please read a book, preferably How Europe Underdeveloped Africa by Walter Rodney

it's hyperbolic when people say this
TEN STAGES OF GENOCIDE
1
Classification: People are divided into "us and them."
Symbolization: People are forced to identify themselves.
Discrimination: People begin to face systematic discrimination.
Dehumanization: People equated with animals, vermin, or diseases.
5
Organization: The government creates specific groups (police/military) to enforce the policies.
6
Polarization: The government broadcasts propaganda to turn the populace against the group.
Preparation: Official action to remove/relocate people.
8
Persecution: Beginning of murders, theft of property, trial massacres.
Extermination: Wholesale elimination of the group. It Is
"extermination" and not murder because the people are not considered human.
10
Denial: The government denies that it has committed any cr ALT

The thing is, using this graphic, what happened in Gaza clearly wasn't a genocide.
There was no campaign against an internal class of "vermin" and there's no wholesale elimination. This graphic doesn't really offer a coherent definition of genocide at all

I said this before, but I think people recommending other fantasy series to replace Harry Potter are barking up the wrong tree.

That wasn't what made it popular. It's that people love cordoning themselves into little groups they can be loyal to, yet pretend it was fate. "Houses" was the key imho

Using a VPN May Subject You to NSA Spying US lawmakers are pressing Tulsi Gabbard to reveal whether using a VPN that connects to overseas servers can strip Americans of their constitutional protections against warrantless surveillance.

NEW: The government tells Americans to use VPNs to protect their privacy. The government also automatically presumes communications of unknown origin are foreign. Foreign communications don't require a warrant to wiretap.

Lawmakers who've done the math want answers.

The Jerusalem Post
@Jerusalem_Post
Opinion: The only way Israel can govern the Gaza Strip without becoming an external oppressor of “another people” is to remove “the other people” from the confines of the Gaza Strip itself.

Interesting how the NYT soft peddles this by saying "critics say".

No, Ben Gvir who wrote the law, says that.

Cops at her front door, holding a phone to her face, asking if that's her Facebook account.

What the fuck are we doing here?

I’m going to keep hammering this point: the excesses of ICE we see now are entirely contiguous with our system of policing more broadly, and the reason that almost no politician wants to threaten real consequences for ICE agents is because it opens the door to making the same demands of the cops

this is a very silly discourse to enter into and i apologize in advance. but aside from this point here, my general policy you shouldn't give airhead political pundits tons of credit and airspace for doing something that tons of average everyday people get next to no credit for doing.

now, personally, I think genocide denial is an actual problem and not an example of someone being annoying online but what do I know

Wow it’s been months since I’ve been on here and yall are still doing this 😭😭😭

Sure! This is an easy one:
Bad candidates, worse campaigns, actively harmful leadership, a refusal to stand up for anyone, and a failure on every level to meet the moment.

One of the most stunning tech stories I have ever read.

A cognitively impaired man became infatuated with a
Facebook Messenger chatbot with a young woman's persona. Rushing to visit her at "123 Main Street NYC," he died along the way.
