A picture from the late summer. A large traffic circle island with plantings and no turf grass. A 15' Sugar Maple Tree in the center contrasts the other finer textures with a dark black-green hue. Diverse plantings with various shades of tan, light and medium green, along with ground cover and the remnant flowers of 'Fireworks' Goldenrod.
A traffic island planting showing the dormant winter form of perennials, sedges, and ground covers. Colors range from yellow-tan, to light tan, and shades of brown.
Traffic circles are a huge missed opportunity. I volunteered a layered planting design w/ native plants to enhance the ecological value of this one. We can't have this in the US b/c the landscape industry can't care for it, become commercialized, based on labor and chemicals rather than knowledge.
