STATEMENT
The role of opposition is intended to hold the government to account, scrutinize legislation, and present alternative policies to the electorate, it is also within its remit to offer support in times of crisis or in the national interest.
While currently not a parliamentary party, The United Party stands in support of the Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. We might not see eye to eye with the prime minister or the Labour government on certain issues, but on ensuring stability for our nations we support them, because that's what a good opposition should do; hold to account where required but lend support also for the good of our nations.
The crisis at hand is our democracy is under threat from those seeking to destabilise its conventions, the fabric of British politics; the PM and this government should see out their first term without interference. That's our democratic system, and it is right to support those conventions in our national interest.
Matt Hudson
Leader of The United Party, 9 February 2026
We stand with the Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer; opposition can and should act in the national interest and that includes lending support to government to maintain stability, and not give way to uncertainty and disarray where preceding governments have capitulated to. Our official statement.
