Many have asked me if there's a material that can fully replace plastic. Now I throw that question to you: Can the world entirely shift away from plastic?
Hate to share more terrible news but terrible news for Environmental & Climate Justice, esp St James Parish residents in Louisiana earthjustice.org/press/2024/l...
I am excited to have been nominated alongside fellow human rights defenders for this year's Kenya Human Rights Defender of the Year award.
Environmental rights are human rights.

As we negotiate for a global #plasticstreaty, which could go through many derailments by oil producing countries and petrochemical industries, we must continue pushing for local or even regional mechanisms to address the problem of plastic.
What we call recycling is just melting plastics whose chemical composition remains unknown to us.
From the beginning, plastic was not designed to be recycled once it became waste. The promotion of recycling has mainly been a response to increased protests against pollution, mostly championed by petrochemical industries who want nothing to do with cutting down on production.
Tonight the third round of negotiations towards a global #PlasticsTreaty wraps up at the @UNEP in Nairobi. Learn more about the debates in my playlist with a new short episode by Julien Gupta from Kenya, just released:

Waste pickers, led by Kenya National Waste Pickers Welfare Association (KNWPA) are calling for a treaty that will address their plight as important players in the plastic value chain.
Models showcase plastic waste clothing in a legislative theatre performance, 'Who Knows It Feels It: A Waste Picker’s Perspective for a Just Transition,' in the sidelines of the #INC3 negotiations for a global Plastics Treaty in Nairobi.
A waste picker carries a bag of plastic bottles to a collection point at a Nakuru landfill. A head of #INC3 Breakfreefromplastic is pushing for a plastics treaty that supports a just transition to secure and sustainable livelihoods for workers and communities involved in the plastics supply chain.
Dr. James underscored the value of satellite data insights in shaping evidence-based policies for a more efficient and effective approach to pollution control.
As the world prepares to meet in Nairobi for the 3rd round of negotiations to work on the details of a #plasticstreaty, I had a conversation with Dr James Doherty, CEO of Plastic-i on the role satellite imaging plays in tackling marine plastic pollution. jwakibia.medium.com/insights-fro...
Thank you Dee.
Great meeting you Dee.
Marginalized communities from Northern Kenya also took part in yesterday's climate protest in Nairobi. They said enough is enough, it's time they are heard!
The question is, will they be heard!
