Zohran Mamdani on CBS — “Socialist politics can flourish anywhere, because there is only one majority in this country, and that is the working class. It’s time we have a politics that puts them at the heart of what we’re doing, not in the appendix.”

America’s Mayor can’t miss.

One time my son managed to flip the security latch as the door was closing. I thought we were going to have to pay for a locksmith but a hotel worker showed up with a piece of cardboard and had the door open in about 5 seconds 😱

Best wishes, Jonathan. Bike Portland has had an enormous and positive impact on me personally and our entire city. I’m excited to see what comes next for you!

Re: gen-x discourse. I am reminded of something a former NYPD officer told me. He said 90% of cops are assholes. 10% are the absolute best people you will ever meet. Not sure about cops, but I think this may be true for my generation. (If you are reading this and gen-x you are in the 10%)

Things bike helmets will protect you from:

-Head injuries from a slow speed fall
-Light rain
-Being blamed for not wearing a helmet if you get hit by someone driving 5,000 lbs of metal and glass

Things bike helmets won't protect you from:

-Everything else

My husband and son were hit by a car and both sustained serious head injuries. Our son (22 months) did not survive. Neither were wearing helmets but no one yells at them about that b/c they were pedestrians in a crosswalk.

If you're not putting a helmet on to walk to the grocery store, maybe MYOB

"Hell yeah" is something I've never said after watching an ad for a democratic politician from my home state (until now!)

Too many of us are intimately familiar with the havoc injury and fatal crashes wreak on families and friends, how they seep unconsciously into a community’s sense of safety, and anesthetize us to the psychological damage caused by witnessing preventable suffering again and again.

You should be embarrassed to be a member of congress and issuing anything other than impeachment resolutions. You're in the model UN. They should give you legos and a propeller hat

It is not "bullying and Intimidation" to primary a democrat who does not support funding schools and supporting workers. (It is awesome 🤩)

All power to the faculty of Portland Community College. It’s very close, even identical to our @CfuUaw win in very important ways. You organized, stood strong, and forced better working conditions for yourselves and thus better learning conditions for your students. Lfg.

Shout out to SEIU Executive Director and coach of my son's 6th grade basketball team @melissa-unger.bsky.social and shout out public/neighborhood schools for being the glue that holds us together 💙

Ultimately it was my connection with a mom at my kids' school that got us a phone call with the governor. The relationships women/moms forge are powerful and too often overlooked

During the #PCCStrike we talked a lot about the gendered division of labor. I'm oversimplifying, but women did the heavy lifting on the line (organizing, set-up, food, clean-up) while it was disproportionately men involved in negotiations, esp. sidebars and backchannel conversations. BUT...1/3

Yes, absolutely! The courage and clarity to stand up to all that bullying and do the right thing is remarkable 💙

The Bennings administration will be remembered for its grift, greed, and cruelty and a board that supported/enabled it. It will also be remembered for a strike that empowered workers to reject this kind of leadership, forcefully. We (and our students!) deserve better.

100% this ✊💙

So proud of us for standing our ground against a corrupt administration! We’re not done yet -
1) Dr. B has got to go
2) Cuts should come from the top (admin salaries and consultant/special project fees)
3) SAVE MUSIC AND SONIC ARTS!!

We did it @pccffap.bsky.social and we will never be the same. I am so inspired by the talent, committment, and resolve of my PCC colleagues and the students who stood with us every step of the way 💙💙💙

The dereliction of duty by the PCC Board of Directors is shocking. Spring term hangs in the balance for thousands of students.

Not going to link but the Oregonian Ed Board coming out against restorative pay for striking PCC workers is class solidarity for bosses. Students understand this, which is why they are unequivocally on the side of teachers and staff #PCCStrike

Every time I see a news article where a PCC administrator is quoted in a "statement," I picture public money being flushed down the toilet, the actual administrator hiding under their desk, and 7 lawyers editing 3 sentences 😂

One reason the PCC unions are winning the public relations war is that we don't have professional public relations people doing all of our comms. It's just teachers, staff, and students talking about how they are trying to go to school and afford groceries.

Portland Community College Reels Amid Massive Strike The college’s classified and faculty unions went on strike over a week ago. Portland has now closed its four campuses, and most classes have come to a halt.

Important to note that PCC refuses to offer restorative pay for striking workers but they also want us to catch up on all the work we missed, including submitting grades.
