Britain, what in the heavens is this?
The psychological manipulator's process:
1. Get their attention
2. Hold their attention
3. Influence their decisions
4. Shape their identity and habits

Lovely piece Brigitte. Did you come across this paper? journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/... @ginasue.bsky.social

Isn't the whole planet far hotter than ideal?
As a temp in the 90s in New York I had to go in crazy early one morning, like 5:30 am. Of course nobody was in the West 4th Street station but all of sudden one guy comes super fast right at me while I was still in the turnstile. I said Mr. Lee I loved Do the Right Thing, but I have to get to work.
Christmas champion!
The Summit will continue its work to convene global scholars and policymakers to understand how information can be intentionally corrupted to impose harms on others like fraud, sexual assault, or war crimes. The Summit does not promote “censorship.” In fact, it opens more discussion, not less. Researchers do not need permission from government officials to engage in scientific inquiry.

Some jurisdictions have started regulating AI-enabled fraud. @taylorowen.bsky.social asked @ginasue.bsky.social (Minderoo Centre for Technology & Democracy, Cambridge) and Mediodecci Lustarini (Directorate General of Digital Space Monitoring, Indonesia) what Canada can learn from these models. 🧵
Interesting interview on #R4today with the head of Google. For a somewhat more scepitcal take on #AI, have a listen to the @green-alliance.org.uk podcast with @ginasue.bsky.social

"The findings in this report should sound the alarm. The fears novelists have shared with us are not abstract concerns, but real challenges faced by people whose craft sustains British culture and one of its most successful industries." - @ginasue.bsky.social

@ginasue.bsky.social joined Laura Kuenssberg on Sunday to discuss harms from AI chatbots.
She argued that without building trust, we won't see the benefits of AI adoption, and called on the UK seize the unique opportunity we have to get governance of AI right.

I really enjoyed talking to @ginasue.bsky.social about AI's promise, but also its huge environmental cost & its tendency to exacerbate existing power imbalances. Tech giants always say tech is good, of course, but we need to raise questions. Do have a listen.
I 💚 it!!!

Gina Neff @ginasue.bsky.social shares her research on the evolution of technology and how it is shaping AI and the future of work. #cscw2025
For the #CSCW2025 closing keynote, @ginasue.bsky.social discusses the myth of automation: automation uncovers and foregrounds current sociotechnical configurations. Technological innovation doesn't happen overnight, it's negotiated by people on the ground over time.
Gina Neff @ginasue.bsky.social : Innovation isn't disruption, it's negotiation.
How do you make room for negotiating innovation? Reconsider team environment and team structure. Add more time and space to figure out what works--and what doesn't.
#cscw2025
Gina Neff @ginasue.bsky.social : What the CSCW community is well positioned to do:
*recognize work of negotiating innovation
*prepare people for increased capacity
*map institutional constraints
*co-create social structures that bring people together
#cscw2025
It's the final day of #cscw2025! I can't believe how quickly the last week has gone by, but I'm feeling very energized by this community, and I'm especially looking forward to Gina Neff (@ginasue.bsky.social) giving the closing keynote this afternoon.
What does today's announcement of AI growth labs mean for responsible innovation, regulation, and growth?

Today's AWS outage, which affected a range of websites and applications—from Signal to Fortnite to key UK government services—reveals the dangers of relying on a handful of Big Tech firms, write Article 19's Corinne Cath and Don Le. These are not glitches; they are democratic failures, they say.
There are 15.4 million undergraduate students in the US. Just over half, 7.9 million attend a 4-year university full-time.
