🧵 on CDs vs. Vinyl from a #vinyl freak
TL;DR - always music first, format second

I definitely prefer CDs, but I respect people who prefer vinyl.
Right now CDs are unquestionably a more affordable alternative to vinyl. Even though this arguably boosts the price of my collection, it hurts my ability to buy new music. I simply can't buy as much. But this wasn't always the case! When I started circa 1990 vinyl was ***cheaper** than discs.

The copper Buddha on a bright sunny day. You can actually go inside it.
This is a temple to a different aspect of the Buddha. You can’t take any photos inside the main shrine but there’s a large beautiful statue made of camphor wood.
Same temple but lower down the hill, it’s a cave with carvings and shrines. Some of the passages are low and you have to walk doubled over.
A large lovely Shinto shrine. I couldn’t see all of it because I couldn’t make it up the stairs to the upper part.
We’re having a fantastic time in Japan. This is all from Kamakura.

Up until 1960, Newport Jazz Festival crowds expected relaxing jazz and maybe some polite acoustic blues. What they got instead in 1960 from Muddy Waters was a full Chicago blues band cranked up electric.

Goodman's small group sessions were always better than his big band ones.

My favorite Miles Davis album changes constantly, but my current favorite is "Blue Moods". It's a very underrated album. Miles himself wasn't too fond of it but it's a very good "listen to it late-at-night" album.
