Coachella is trying to wipe all of the footage of The Strokes protest set so I’m gonna post it here. The last images on the screen made me cry.

Look, for my money the absolute game changer technologies right now are batteries and biosciences, not statistically modeling a mid conversation, but you do you.

An infographic. There are six panels.

1. "Slow internet. Alt text is shown in place of unloaded images." a drawing shows a phone with poor signal, and alt text is visible where the image should have loaded.

2. "Findabillity. Alt text helps to search content." A drawing shows someone searching 'dog with banana' and a post is shown underneath without the words 'dog' or 'banana'. It is implied to be part of the alt text.

3. "Screen readers. Alt is read out to people using text-to-speech software". There is a drawing of the output a screen-reader would show when viewing an image with alt text on bluesky.

4. "Translation. Alt text can be translated". A drawing shows a post being translated. The alt text is also translated into german.

5. "Readability. Text in images can be made legible" There is a drawing of some truly awful handwriting inside a speech bubble. The alt text clarifies what the text is supposed to say.

6. "Disambiguation. Description helps clarify intent." There is a drawing of a post with a picture of a creature. This is styled after the famous optical illusion of a rabbit and a duck. The alt text clarifies that the animal is a rabbit. It definitely looks more like a duck.

Generally we think of alt-text as the domain of those with accessibility needs.

However alt-text is useful for many reasons, which benefit your viewers, as well as you, the creator!

Just for reference if people on Threads and Facebook are enthusiastically sharing a screenshot with no links and no proper names, it's not real.

I challenge you to be better than Facebook.

I believe in you.

The New York Times is now blocking The Wayback Machine from accessing its articles.

That means you'll no longer be able to view archived versions of NYT stories published in 2026 and beyond on archive.org.

(All those posts you see tracking changes to NYT headlines and ledes? They relied on WBM).

Substack confirms to me it is hosting its third annual "new media party" at the Renwick Gallery during WHCD weekend. They confirm that streamer and "looksmaxxing" influencer Clavicular will be in attendance, "along with many others."

Substack tells me: "This invite-only gathering will bring together an ideologically diverse mix of Substack writers, journalists, politicos, elected officials, and the thinkers and tastemakers shaping today's cultural conversation. The event is a chance to celebrate the independent voices reshaping how Washington consumes and understands the news — and a reflection of the fact that some of the most influential people in media and culture are now building their audiences outside of legacy institutions."

Matt Walsh @MattWalshBlog

A weird thing is that whenever I post criticism of Al, the majority of the people agreeing with me seem to be leftists. It's pretty much the only position I hold that seems to be more popular with the left than the right. It should be the opposite. My whole point about Al (especially Al in creative fields) is that it isn't human, it doesn't have a soul, and we cannot surrender our society to an unhuman soulless algorithm even if it makes our lives easier in some ways. It's very strange that an argument predicated on the existence of the soul resonates with the left while conservatives tend to scoff at it.

Hollywood Heavyweights Sign Letter Opposing Paramount’s Deal for Warner Bros.

It's not too late to STOP the Paramount/Warner Brothers merger, which is:
Bad for creative expression.
Bad for audiences.
Bad for the economy.
Yup I signed on. So did my bro. And most of my doc colleagues. #BlockTheMerger @normeisen.bsky.social
