"To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else - means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting."

I’m Nobody! Who are you?

Are you – Nobody – too?

Then there’s a pair of us!

Don’t tell! they’d advertise – you know!

How dreary – to be – Somebody!

How public – like a Frog –

To tell one’s name – the livelong June –

To an admiring Bog!

Seven Samurai (1954)

I get the hype and why its one of the quintessential movies now. Good first film for a year.

Honestly loved the slow, tense and deliberate pacing and the abundance of silent thoughtful moments. A lot of scenes respecting the viewer and telling a story without explicitly

It is astounding what a loving gaze reveals about masculinity. Looking at men as objects of inherent beauty and passion, there emerges a different story about who they are, and about the tragedy they're suffering in an increasingly cruel world.

Still ‘round the corner
There may wait
A new road or
A secret gate;
And though I oft
Have passed them by,
A day will come
At last when I
Shall take the hidden
Paths that run
West of the moon,
East of the sun.

"Being in balance, together,
Is not a fixed state,
Not a battle over differences
Or bending to each other
But a slender cord of
Grace between you,
Tough and elastic,
That leaves you
Steady and free."

‘Panopticon is not merely a prison design, but a metaphor for a new mode of power in modern societies-one that operates through psychological control and internalized surveillance rather than overt, physical punishment […] embodying the shift from external force to internalized discipline.’

This looks interesting. So much work to be done in Mental health nursing on this subject. Not simply looking at men & expectation but the systems surrounding them & subject matters which can be more complex beyond the person. I feel the gov. is missing a trick here when it comes to the profession.

Paragraph from p. 27 of Michel Foucault’s “Society Must Be Defended,” which reads, “Methodological precautions. Our object is not to analyze rule-governed and legitimate forms of power which have a single center, or to look at what their general mechanisms or its overall effects might be. Our object is, on the contrary, to understand power by looking at its extremities, at its outer limits at the point where it becomes capillary; in other words, to understand power in its most regional forms and institutions, and especially at the points where this power transgresses the rules of right that organize and delineate it, oversteps those rules and is invested in institutions, is embodied in techniques.”
