I wish more awards considered short fic collections. Not only do I enjoy reading them, but I also think a lot of stories fall under the radar, especially when the author is still unknown. Collections can bring those stories back into the light so they can finally get some recognition.
Ended 2024 and began 2025 by reading two really good books: The Five Wounds by Kristin Valdez-Quade and The Storm We Made by Vanessa Chan.

Rising from the dead to say that I passed my preliminary exam for my PhD!!! I read 100 books about the short story form, Asian American lit, and creative writing pedagogy and took a written/oral exam. I am so, so tired but so proud of myself.
