Unable to remove book from Currently Reading Have you tried a full site rebuild?
2 days ago 0 0 0 0
Error message You should go to that post and provide the content. What this probably means is there’s some form of raw html inside of other template code that is not marked explicitly as safe. There are a few options, but it depends on the content.

Unable to remove book from Currently Reading @manton One comic I read a while back will not delete, even after moving it to Finished Reading. It remains at the top of the list despite adding new books. I’ve also rebuilt the site. The book is Into The Unbeing Vol. 1. If you could remove it, that would be awesome Thanks!

Quotebacks embed script You’ve been very helpful with all of my questions, thank you I am familiar with Markdown syntax, but I just learned about Quotebacks and I think it’s very cool. I’ll include the script when I use them. Thanks again!

Quotebacks embed script It adds a few bells and whistles, like the quoted website’s favicon (if it has one). And no, you can skip it, the quote will just look a little less fancy. The easiest way to make a quote in Markdown or on Micro.blog is like this: Look what [pluvialgeist wrote](https://help.micro.blog/t/quotebacks-embed-script/4320): > I have basically no coding knowledge, so please forgive me, but what is the script at the end of a Quotebacks embed doing? Which will render something like this on your blog: Look what pluvialgeist wrote: > I have basically no coding knowledge, so please forgive me, but what is the script at the end of a Quotebacks embed doing?

Replying from timeline and publishing replies to multiple blogs 1. I think this is just residue and that they will disappear after you remove the replies page from the Pages page. 2. No, at least not without rolling your own solution. Out of the box, only one site can contain all of your replies. > I _don’t_ want my replies published to either blog as blog posts. I _do_ want replies published to the “Replies” pages on both blogs (if possible). The blog you choose as target will have replies as blog posts, though. That’s how the feature works. The replies page is just an archive of all the “reply blog posts”. They are a little special, so they won’t show up on the homepage or the default RSS feed, for example.

Deleted replies are still published to blog When your blog feels out of sync, it often helps to nudge it into doing a full rebuild. Navigate to the logs page and press _Rebuild_. It will take a couple of minutes, and once it’s ready, your old replies should hopefully be gone. You can also disable replies on your site completely, if you don’t want them there, from the Account page.

Bookmarking not saving all pages in Reader mode Maybe this deserves its own topic, but I wonder if anyone here also experiences problems with the reader not loading the full text of any particular article that does get saved to reader mode? For example, this link, Preparing for an Invasion — The Dial, does successfully bookmark, and a reader-mode version is created. However, the reader-mode version just stops about ¾ of the way through the essay. I want to love Inkwell and Micro.blog’s bookmarks, since I’m paying for Premium, but both are just too unreliable for daily use at this time. I’ll have to stick with Raindrop.io for now

Replying from timeline and publishing replies to multiple blogs I have two micro.blog-hosted blogs. Both blogs have published “Replies” pages. Under Micro.blog >> Account >> Replies, the “Include my replies on” dropdown is set to the default “Timeline only.” However, when I reply to post from the micro.blog timeline, that reply gets published to the “Replies” page on my “primary” blog (the one micro.blog created for me based on my micro.blog username when I first created an account) but not to the “Replies” page on my “secondary” blog. I see from the dropdown that I can manually select which of the 2 blogs I want replies to be published to, so my questions are: 1. If it’s set to “Timeline only,” why are replies being published to the “Replies” page on my “primary” blog? 2. Is it possible to have my replies published to the “Replies” pages on both blogs? 1. If so, how do I set that up? To be clear: I _don’t_ want my replies published to either blog as blog posts. I _do_ want replies published to the “Replies” pages on both blogs (if possible).

Deleted replies are still published to blog I’m new here and to micro.blog in general. I’ve searched for an answer to my question but couldn’t find one, so I hope y’all will forgive me if this has already been covered somewhere. I published a few replies to a Mastodon post. They were short, really only intended for the Mastodon user. At the time, I didn’t realize that _all_ replies I publish from the micro.blog timeline will be published to the “Replies” page on my micro.blog-hosted blog. I understand now, and that’s not a problem. I’ll just modify my reply behavior from the micro.blog timeline. Here’s my issue: I used the “Replies” module from the micro.blog dashboard to delete those short replies that I don’t want published to my micro.blog-hosted blog. Next, I went to the “Pages” module from the dashboard, selected “Replies,” and clicked on “Update Page.” Waited for micro.blog to confirm that changes had been published, then navigated to my blog to confirm. Unfortunately, the replies I deleted are still published to the “Replies” page on my blog. Am I not understanding something fundamental about the way replies from the micro.blog timeline work? Is there a step I’m missing in order to unpublish those replies from my blog? Sorry, again, if this has been answered somewhere. I’d appreciate any help, even if it’s just directing me to the topic that has the answer

Can't add atom.xml to Inkwelll Thanks for looking into this. To be clear, I haven’t faced a situation where a URL that points to an actual XML file is saved with no entries appearing, so this is not just a misapprehension on my part of how the UI works. The only feed URL that _**is**_ saved is the one that returns 404 `danluu.com/atom/index.xml` . So I suppose the primary difference in behavior between the Liferea RSS client (that imports the feed successfully) and Inkwell, is that Liferea uses the URL provided directly (`https://danluu.com/atom.xml`) while Inkwell attempts to read the one from within the `<atom:link>` tag, as you noted. I gather since there’s multiple things wrong with this feed, there’s no obvious fix. I see that, if i try to import `https://danluu.com/atom/index.xml` directly, it refuses to be saved because apparently Inkwell tries to validate and gets a 404. Perhaps it would be safer for Inkwell to save the same URL that it validates (i.e. `https://danluu.com/atom.xml`) or, alternatively, to also validate the URL found inside the `<atom:link>` tag prior to saving it.

Can't add atom.xml to Inkwelll I checked that feed and I think the main problem is that the posts are all older than a couple years. Inkwell focuses on recent posts. The UI will usually only show posts from the last week, although it can show older posts when selecting a specific blog. Also it is a big feed and will perform better if it was a lot smaller. That `danluu.com/atom/index.xml` URL is showing up because it’s referenced in the feed. I think Inkwell is discovering it by accident, so that is something I can fix, but the feed is also probably wrong.

New post button in Micro.blog Bookmark I start to save links to bookmark in micro.blog so I can write a post about them but it doesn’t have an option for a new post. Would you consider adding that button option in the Bookmark page?

Can't add atom.xml to Inkwelll I don’t have any behind-the-scenes insights, but I notice two things about that feed: 1. It’s pretty big, 6.3 MB. 2. It does not validate. I know @manton has limits on feed size in other parts of the system. So it could be that, or maybe Inkwell just trips over the broken feed. Send bug reports to help@micro.blog.

Can't add atom.xml to Inkwelll I’m trying to subscribe to https://danluu.com/ , either with the plain url, or with the direct url to the atom.xml: https://danluu.com/atom.xml In the first case it simply fails to subscribe, in the second it adds a suscription entry to an empty https://danluu.com/atom/index.xml URL. P.S. Where should I be reporting bugs? While in general I like the UX choices and find the implementation of POSSE in micro.blog very nice, I struggle to recommend it to ordinary people (i.e. not FOSS nerds) because the whole thing lacks QA.

Make the full screen posting on desktop default I _love_ the new fullscreen posting experience (might not be that new I’ve just only spotted the button). It’s ace that it’s reachable with shift-cmd-f but is there a way it can be set as the default behaviour when I create a new post on the web?

Occasional error message Same here, and it does seem to happen when Github archiving is running.

Replying to a specific Mastodon post I’d like to bump this up to the top of the feature-request queue, please. I’d like to have a bookmarklet on the desktop and a shortcut on the iPhone/iPad that will automatically open a Mastodon post in Micro.blog and let me reply to it from Micro.blog.

Bluesky profiles showing default profile pic in MB timeline Hello! Just to update, there’s a few profiles I’m seeing that are still defaulting to the blue butterflies - couple of examples here, and here. Let me know if you need any more intel or if there’s anything I need to try from this side!

Photos collections shortcode breaks in private notes This change is live now.
1 week ago 0 0 0 0
Any way to discover long-form blog posts? I didn’t know this link existed. Can it be embedded somewhere in Discover, so folks who go to the Discover section see it? Maybe with a link saying “do you have a suggestion…?” that sort of thing. In the past Micro.blog favored posts with ALT in the images for Discover (and then I think it was reinforced, especially after these descriptions were added as an automatic option via AI). Maybe we can do something similar for longer posts, with summaries (which can also be created by AI). Is it hard to implement? As for Inkwell, and this is probably more complicated - an option to export the feeds to the Recommendation list on blogs, some sort of an integration. So I can automatically recommend the RSS feeds I subscribe to, with the option to edit those before I publish them. You asked for suggestions

Photos collections shortcode breaks in private notes I hadn’t thought about this, but it’s a great idea. I’ll update Micro.blog later today to support it. Thanks!

Photos collections shortcode breaks in private notes I can confirm that it’s the same for me. Is this supposed to work, @manton?

Photos collections shortcode breaks in private notes Hi there! I wanted to create a ‘private album’ of photos I could share with some friends using the Micro blog private notes feature. It seems that private notes cannot expand the shortcodes as expected causing the following error: `Error: error building site: assemble: "content/notes/$NOTE_ID": failed to extract shortcode: template for shortcode "collection" not found` Steps to reproduce: 1 - Create a photo collection 2 - Copy shortcode `{{< collection "ExamplePrivateAlbum" >}}` 3 - Paste shortcode in a private note 4 - Save, check logs to see above error

Post duplicated?! It’s not super prominent, but there are a few links to the logs page. For example on the Account page.

Post duplicated?! Oh, thanks for the tip! I did that and the duplicate is gone now. I remembered there was a rebuild button somewhere and would’ve tried that, but for the life of me I couldn’t find it! Now I know it’s in the Logs page, but I can’t seem to find a way there either, other than your direct link…
