I always thought Sun Tzu's "Art of War" was a little simplistic and obvious but it turns out yes, you do literally need to tell the Secretary of War "you need to feed your troops and keep them from being wiped out by preventable diseases"

A Note on Gender

from 'Folkish' by Kym Deyn

The braag is woman in the same way a penny is money, which is like, if you're categorising, if there's nothing better to say, if you threw them down a well, if you wore a woman's portrait for years then a man's, if you were in every set of hands, if nobody gave a damn, if you always come back, if you're becoming more obsolete over time.

The braag is a man in the same way a penny is a man, which is to say not at all. Which is to say the copper could be melted down and cast into anything you like. Which is to say he's in the pipes, which is to say turn on the tap -

There's also a section of "Folkish" where the poems are all about the Northumbrian trickster spirit, The Braag.

A circular basket, in use as a waste paper bin, rests on a grey and cream rug and a laminate floor. In the basket there is (1) a tabby cat, his tail sticking out, and (2) an empty tube of lick-e-lix, a.k.a. 'cat crack'. At top left you can glimpse the foot of an observer, who is laughing like a drain.

England fans facing hugely inflated prices to get to New Jersey's MetLife Stadium for World Cup games The cost of getting the train from New York to the venue, where the Three Lions play Panama in their final group game, will be £111 - nearly 12 times the usual fare.

DON'T COME HERE.

They kidnap people off the streets & throw them in filthy holes.

They don’t care who you are.

They don't care if you're white, either, if you think that'll save you.

They have quotas.

(It’s all about money.)

THE US IS NOT SAFE.

On a distant stage, in front of a nocturnal seascape, stand the cast of Rigoletto - Mark Elder, conductor, entering stage right. A splendid production of a nasty story. Audience at back of amphitheatre somewhat vexing. (Stop talking! Stop leaning forward! Turn your bloody phone off!)

Colourful patterned sheer tights (pantyhose in American) disappear from the high street shops every time there's an economic downturn.

They are very much my "thing" so I've noticed the wax and wane over the decades.

We're currently in the dour and dawdy phase - mostly grey brown and black opaque.

“But why would you drink with him if you thought he was a creep?” Because creepy men are still powerful people in their fields. Because they are still the professional & social contacts we are forced to maintain. Because the same people tell us we’re crazy for thinking a man is creepy to begin with.

Oh, you are? How marvellous. Tell your family you’re just popping out for a second, if you wouldn’t mind. We’re going for a walk. No, you won’t need your coat”

The dome of St Paul's Cathedral, seen from the centre of the name. There was free admission this evening: we crept to the crypt and toured the tombs. I wondered aloud where they buried women, since - apart from a few early widows - it memorialised men.

A wooded area of my local park. On the grass at centre, two young herons are semi-flying, while another (at left) spreads its wings. At right, one of them isn't playing any more, so there.
There seem to be 6 young herons, plus the parents -- who swooped in, pterodactylly, to keep an eye on them. They're quite fearless, which is a little worrying.

A blue-grey lit stage set, for Les Liaisons Dangereuses at the Lyttleton Theatre on 11 April 2026. No photography allowed during performance, including curtain call... The lower halves of the walls are mirror, reflecting some ordinary chairs at far left. The upper halves of the walls show typically c18 French artwork, tasteful female nurses and delicate drapery. Top right is a quarter of the chandelier/light fitting, used for dramatic lighting effects later.

Just as there were people who resisted the introduction of inside toilets, seatbelts, women’s votes, lead free toys etc Tice & his party are similarly reluctant to embrace what most people can clearly see is needed. Unimaginative, regressive, fact averse idiots.
