I've primed it in pink to give a good base for the yellow, of which there's quite a bit on this livery. It should also be good for the red. #hoscale #modelrailway #modeltrains #kitbash #187scale #bsmrguk #modelrailroading #railwaymodelling

Looking great. I have never heard of using pink primer under yellow, but it makes so much sense. I will try it the next time I do a reefer.

Now let's do the painting. First, the usual Mr. Mahogany Surfacer 1000, then earthpink panel highlights (a mix of Mr. Color red, white, and brown), and Santa Fe brown (TCP-019) base color. #ModelRailroad #ModelRailway #HOScale #FeQBuild

The roof of this model box car was given a non-slip coating in the 1930s that appeared flat black. True black is quite rare in natural settings; a dark gray will give a more realistic impression in HO scale: Mr. Color 513 Dunkelgrau. #ModelRailroad #ModelRailway #HOScale #FeQBuild

Roof details - the main walk has amazing details - and is highly prone to breakage. Luckily it was possible to rejoin it. The black CA glue shows where the joint is on the installed roofwalk. It would not be visible otherwise. #ModelRailroad #ModelRailway #HOScale #FeQBuild

The trucks are added and the floor is joined to the box car shell. It has an interesting closure mechanism, where the screw into the couplers also attaches the top to the floor. Look at how big this thing is next to that narrow gauge tank car! #ModelRailroad #ModelRailway #HOScale #FeQBuild

Five hundred of the Fe-Q model were built in 1924 by Pullman, with close derivatives produced in subsequent years. Fe-Q models survived until 1943, at which time they were rebuilt into Fe-25s. I have not found a prototype photo. #ModelRailroad #ModelRailway #HOScale #FeQBuild

We laid out exactly why that argument doesn’t hold up.

Safety isn’t a cost burden. It’s a baseline.
