NEW RESEARCH: Up to 90% of industrial energy demand could be electrified with existing & emerging tech.
Under high-ambition policy, 51% by 2050 is achievable. 84% under the most enabling assumptions.
The technologies exist. The constraint is policy.

Virginians vote to back a new electoral map that could hand Democrats four more seats in the US House of Representatives.
The results turn Trump's redistricting push into a potential liability for Republicans in upcoming midterm elections

Trump continues to crater. New NBC poll has his approval down to 37-63, which is 26 points underwater.
Crucially, 50% disapprove *strongly.* Has any other president had half the country strongly disapproving?

Shhhh don't tell them 😅
Lee Zeldin's EPA named its new scientific advisory board today. On the list:
- 6 people from chemical, fertilizer, and oil companies
- 1 climate change skeptic
- 1 clean air skeptic
Chemours used research from one of the newly-named advisors to lobby against PFOA regulation.
So you're going to be voting *against* FISA reauthorization like your constituents are demanding, right? 🤨
You know how in Civil War times there were plenty of abolitionists in the North who worked hard to get rid of slavery for abstract moral reasons, but who were also deeply uncomfortable in the presence of actual black people? That's basically the entire vibe of the PNW. 🤦
I did the math out of curiosity: an $80 million donation from the Ballmer Group -- which has $83 billion in assets -- is the equivalent of someone like me, with a $110k annual salary, donating $100. I'm glad NPR is getting some money, but goddamn, billionaires absolutely should not exist 🫠
The federal government – ICE, FBI, and more – is spying on you without a warrant.
This week, Congress will decide whether Kash Patel, Stephen Miller and Trump can keep spying on Americans. If that scares you (it should) this thread is for you.
Dear god. Very, very serious allegations of mass civil rights violations at the State of Florida's Everglades immigration detention center (officially known as "Alligator Alcatraz").
Again: for any big liberal donor who wants to funnel millions into fixing this country's politics, the ROI on buying any struggling paper and simply tasking it with doing real reporting on local news is vastly higher than the same $$ given to some group that does mass ad buys every election year.
Look, sometimes you just gotta move through life with the unshakeable confidence of a deeply mediocre white man and hope it works 😅
In competitive authoritarianism, leaders abuse state power to tilt the electoral playing field in their favor, manipulate the media environment and minimize opposition voices, maybe even steal close elections by lying about fraud. But they usually can't overcome a large majority voting against them.
Orban's inability to prevent last year's Pride protests—attended by 300k despite being banned—was a turning point in his authoritarian grip of the country.
Queer people are always leading the fight against authoritarianism, as we are often its first targets. Never cower to fear.

Hm, looks like you may already have it disabled? Here's the deep dive re: all the places the relevant setting could be (and yes, they make it confusing on purpose):

BREAKING: You checked the weather this morning.
And you just told a surveillance company where you sleep.

Contrary to Trump and Vance's promises to help unemployed US-born workers through mass deportations, *the unemployment rate has steadily increased* for U.S.-born workers under Trump during the mass deportation era. Analysis with the latest data from @benzipperer.org and me for @epi.org:
No matter where you live, there’s an Indivisible group near you that’s organizing the pro-democracy majority to reclaim its power: indivisible.org/get-involved/find-a-group/
My cousin loves baseball (to inexplicable levels) & mentioned going to a game on our family Zoom call. Me, not a sportsball person: "So, what do you *do* at a baseball game?" Cousin's wife laughed so hard she fell out of the frame 😂
I'd really like to see leadership calling for impeachment and removal, regardless of whether they have the votes to get it done. Same way we called for marriage equality before we had the votes. A leader's job is to lead. If a genocidal threat isn't impeachable, then nothing is.
Update: called it 😂
US and Iran agree to a two-week ceasefire with talks to begin Friday in Pakistan.
Tehran says it will temporarily reopen the vital Strait of Hormuz.
There has been no immediate response from Israel

it cant be said enough that all tech smart guys and billionaires thought this guy would be great and now the world economy is fucked we're like a week from gas rationing and their guy is threatening nukes.
BTW the people who spent the last few years advocating for Palestine were clearly 100% right that normalizing war crimes and genocide there would just increase the likelihood of inhumane actions elsewhere. Just saying.
... Liberia?? What the actual hell.
Y'all. 25th isn't fast enough (& Vance/cabinet won't anyway). Impeachment isn't fast enough, Congress isn't in session. All we've got is 1) TACO, 2) military refuses, 3) sedatives in his McD burger. 🤦
