Look for an Alexander Technique teacher who works with dancers or actors (a lot of them are full of woo, so run away at the first sign, but the discipline is amazing at teaching you proprioception)

I have in fact had a Weed Emergency! (I was in a ton of pain and hadn't brought enough drugs on the trip because I don't like to carry my whole prescription of scheduled pills, and I guessed wrong how much I'd need.)

A very pudgy brown tabby cat sits on a kitchen chair next to the photographer. She has been caught mid-yell. It is very difficult to photograph her when she is not mid-yell.

Say what you will about the internet, it remains awesome that I can buy dinner for a friend who's having a shitty-ass day from halfway across the world

And a lot of grocery stores are even carrying fresh pasta these days!

Exactly! I do still sometimes make my own (especially because I can freeze it in single servings) but I don't really have 6 hours of cooking in me anymore and Classico is 95% of the good for significantly less time!

Yep! I can make an amazing pasta sauce with Grandma's recipe or I can save the 6+ hours and get a 95% as good pasta sauce by opening a jar!

Ha, I feel you. It does let you export your bibliography!

I wouldn't use it for particularly sensitive/risky changes and I wouldn't use it for open-ended analysis, but giving it some text and telling it "find any evidence of these specific categories and cite to where you found it" has been a huge time-saver.

And the degree to which it's saved me so much "keeping incredibly complex shit in my head while I work" is especially useful. I still have to understand what it's doing and check its work, but again, it's checking/editing, not doing analysis from scratch.

I was a skeptic! And then I tried it and oh my god the amount of tedious fuckery it's saved me has been amazing. My business partner and I got a side project that would have been 2+ months of work to the stage that needs human brain power only in 2 weekends.

--it can save a ton of time and energy (and switch the cognitive load from "write the thing" to "rewrite the thing", and as we all know, it's easier to refine/edit than it is to fill a blank box). It's not a universal panacea, but it's a significant advantage in not having to do the tedious bits.

Where people run into trouble with it is giving it very high-level instructions and letting it loose, or not checking the outputs (both manually and by running them back through the model). It's not a substitute for understanding the basic principles, but if you do and you know the failure modes--

It's really good at writing code as long as you break down the components very well and give it very clear instructions, and it's really good at explaining what specific code is doing (especially in context of the whole codebase) and at finding the most likely place to start looking for a weird bug.

I genuinely have yet to try a variety I didn't like! I have like five jars of their tomato-basil at all times

YES, and as a lesbian who believes firmly in the expansive definition of "lesbian" I love it!

That's a surface she's actually allowed to be on! (We are only sticklers about things food touches and that's the "dump stuff on when you come in" surface)

I'm being snide but seriously, if you want a jarred pasta sauce (and I am 100% behind saving energy when you are low on it), go with Classico. Every one of their sauces is so good every member of my very Italian family who's a snob about pasta sauce (ie all of them) has given in by now

Yes! It's sad they used it for shit pasta sauce!

Oh yeah, I didn't even want to get into that, I just had to take a jab at their shit pasta sauce lol

That is a surface she is allowed to be on! She likes hovering there while we're eating dinner

A black and white cat has crawled under the first layer of a light grey colored folded up fuzzy electric blanket. All you can see is her head, but she is loafed up and the edge of the blanket is draped over her ears.

We folded up the electric blanket that we keep (for the cats) spread over the couch during the winter for the summer and set it on the sideboard to remember to pack it away, and it's just going to live there all summer because it's Ginny's new favorite spot, including crawling under the top fold
