Tempted to start documenting my nearly daily gripes using #reaper to record game dialogue. My current feeling is this turd of a DAW barely manages basic functions unless you actively want to do the coding on the devs behalf to make it totally bespoke. Tell me I’m wrong, and help me learn why haha

I’m 90% sure the English announcements at Naples airport are just generated with Siri’s English voice circa 2013
I think I can really feel this in your work
I think if you listen to a podcast with fake AI people saying AI generated words you are functionally dead, you are basically a phone to me at that point
Currently having to delicately balance my career dialogue for games with my career in sound and music for commercials with my career in higher education, with my career in sound design for animation.
We need a party to the left of Labour

Hotel background cover songs are such a complex art. Any random song slowed down insinuate some other deeper meaning. The skill is in inserting random gaps into phrases that sound disingenuous, flattening the bolder parts parts of the melody & attempting to evoke mystery while oversinging every line
Currently editing my 28th Romanian broadcast tv spot, some of which I rewrote the translation for. A random gig that shows up occasionally along side meditation music composer (2 albums so far). What’s everyone else’s random filler?
Apparently it took 3 weeks per ep. Rehearsal week one, tech rehearsal week 2 and week 3 was the shoot with two full takes captured per day. A massive task, but they nailed it.
I’ve got a friend who was part of the team. 2 mixers, one for internal scenes and one for external/vehicles. 3 booms who leap frogged each other 2 in charge of radios and a trainee on set! Everyone with a spoken line had a radio, sometimes up to twenty actors!
Makes sense, if you had to rewind anyway might as well see if you can spot anything on the way
Trying to speed up my sound editing workflow. How much time do people find they spend in playback when editing a scene? I tend playback every edit/spot then adjust, probably multiple times. The alternative is throw sounds on markers, playback at the end, fix problems you notice approach.
What if I just gave up pretending and became “that guy”
Obviously auto align don’t operate this way, I just have the spend the money. But just curious if anyone has seen any alternative business models out there
I’m yet to have a year begin without an immediate requirement for expensive software at the same time as tax is due. Is anyone aware of any plugins that operate on day or weekly rates? Realistically there’s no need for me to have a full copy auto align post 2 gathering dust for 99% of a project
Anyone looking for anything specific to SA/Cape town you have two days to drop me a line
Out collecting some sounds in another part of the world. If I get myself together in the next few months I might try to find a home to sell some highlights from the last few years. Lots of great overnight sessions picking up all sorts in the wild
I feel like I’m being cheered on 🥹
totally ruined my following to follower ratio by converting my follows over from twitter. Briefly I knew what it was like to have a 1:10 ratio. I was a celebrity. It was fine.
Had a great time going to BAFTA on Thursday to watch clips from the sound long list. Been a choppy 5 years since graduating from the NFTS, but it’s not lost on me that I got to sit in BAFTA cinema in my own for about 10 mins, and chat to talented people afterward.
Okay. I think I’m ready to shift my complaining to here now.
The last platform gave me many years of joy, but I’ve had my fill of watching it tear itself apart.
Lots of you soundies have been following a largely inactive account! Give me a yell and I’ll follow back
So far my feed consist of half a dozen fellow sound editors and @bodegacats.bsky.social there’s a strong temptation to just leave it this way. The lack of clutter and sheer number of cats is v welcome.
Is this good yet?
