I raced against the baseworks setup wizard, and it defeated me.
The goal: to set up a ready-to-use and extensible smart home ecosystem comprised of 5 devices. Even with many years of experience and hundreds of devices configured, I could not keep up.

3. Have mechanisms that ensure devices still work. Things break down all the time: the electricity or battery goes out, hardware defects render devices unusable. The more devices, the higher the chance something goes wrong. Periodically check your setup to ensure everything is working.

2. Check the communication protocol: the mechanism through which devices communicate. Open protocols such as Wi-Fi, Zigbee and Matter guarantee more flexibility in scaling your ecosystem and adding new devices. In contrast, brand-specific ones can lock you to a single manufacturer.
