I can still be a St Pat's supporter and be very excited that @jcfjustice.bsky.social are working with @bfcdublin.bsky.social on the possibility of developing community wealth building for the northside of Dublin. Sean McCabe here laying out the vision

No Bad Chocolate for Lent - Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice in Ireland For many people, Lent is a time to temporarily abstain from chocolate. Is this self-denial pleasing to God? Niall Leahy SJ takes a closer look at the chocolate industry before making up his mind.

The uncomfortable truth is that much of the chocolate we consume is relatively cheap because someone else, and somebody much poorer than us, is paying the price. Our bargain is their poverty and our pleasure is their pain.

Prison Has No Waiting List - Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice in Ireland Those caught in this situation are often too unwell to stand trial, condemned to spend an indeterminate time in an overcrowded prison. Prisons, which have a deleterious effect on those with stable men...

Last week, RTE's Psychiatric Care Scandal docs and Ivan Rosney's death report shone light on the some of the darkest recesses of Irish society.

"Prisons ... exacerbate the rapid fraying of a person’s mind. It is not too much to draw an equivalence to torture."

People get trapped in multiple false 'totalities':
- psychological
- cultural
- political, etc.

Genuine Christian conversion -> experience of utter 'transcendence', shattering every fake 'totality'.

Inauthentic 'conversion' -> entrapment in yet another totality, often with a 'religious' facade!

An appalling proposal is hidden at the end of the Government’s Bill on the airport cap; it would exclude decisions under the legislation from the current obligation on almost all public bodies to consider their climate impact and to be consistent with climate objectives.

One in ten homeless people in Ireland living on one Dublin street One in ten people who are homeless in Ireland are living in accommodation on one Dublin street, according to figures released to RTÉ's Prime Time.

My office is on this street. If the people who live there vote a gangster into office, it should be very easy to understand since it is bordering on the criminal how their area is treated: www.rte.ie/news/primeti...

Ireland’s prison system under fire over treatment of inmates with mental illness RTÉ documentary lays bare how prisoners with severe mental illness are failed by the State, with devastating consequences for families

I interviewed a retired prison officer last year who told me of one prisoner’s mother showing up on the day of his committal with his teddy; he couldn’t sleep without it. Mick has been covering this for a long time

Roderic O’Gorman 'still facing threats and social media abuse' 'I never got homophobic abuse until I was 39, a minister, and there’s a gang outside Leinster House with a noose," says Green Party leader Roderic O’Gorman.

A good interview about how poor the new government has been, from the mouth of someone at the heart of the (much better) older one

Cycling without a helmet and high-vis clothing may be made criminal offences in Ireland — Law areound cyclists being reviewed with e-scooter proposals for helmets and high-vis. Seán Canney, the Minister of State for road safety, is considering making it illegal to cycle without …

Having rowed back on lowering speed limits and reforming the Road Safety Authority, Minister Canney is now doubling down on the RSA's failed policies by scapegoating the most vulnerable on the road instead of following evidence-based measures to make our roads safer.

How Ireland got hooked on ultra-processed foods – and the only viable solution Reformulating ultra-processed food as effective as low-tar cigarettes or guns with fewer bullets

This sheds a lot of light on the science and business of food. Education is not enough. Time for government to start the shift away from ultra processed food www.irishtimes.com/opinion/2026...

‘Cyclists have become a nightmare in Dublin’: Judge reduces €50,000 damages award by 80%
By the same token, I have to declare experientially that drivers seem to be out-of-control on our roads managing to kill 190 in 2025.

Opinion: 2025 was a devastating year on Irish roads. We need a transport system that keeps us safe Safety of pedestrians and cyclists on Irish roads is going in exactly the wrong direction, writes Dr Catherine Conlon.

"What we need is a transport system that supports heath. This means safe, high-quality infrastructure for walking and cycling integrated with high quality public transport that is complimented by car use when needed."

Excellent article by Dr. Catherine Conlon.
