Good turnout for the Port Fairy section of the Yoorrook Justice Commission Walk for Truth today.

Meeting near Killarney at a massacre site, participants were reminded about the reality of what happened with colonisation: massacres, brutal displacement, & long resistance that continues today.

If the horrors unfolding in Gaza are not a red line for Australia to take stronger action then I don’t know what is | David Pocock Everyone knows the Australian government cannot end the war alone, but we do have an important role to play as a middle power, and it must be more than just words

The Australian Government needs to back up their words with action. We should be stepping up as a middle power and taking concrete action against the Government of Israel for the horrors it’s inflicting on the people of Gaza.

New emissions data is out - and it’s not good news. Carbon pollution is going up, and it’s higher than under Morrison’s Libs.

Labor’s approval of new coal and gas like the North West Shelf has consequences for the planet.

Two climate tests so far - and Labor’s failed both.

No Straight Road Takes You There by Rebecca Solnit review – an activist’s antidote to despair Hope is no casual platitude in this inspiring collection of essays; it’s the realistic mindset with which to approach existential challenges

"Uncertainty is the most rational position to embrace, and unlike optimism or pessimism, it does not entrench us in complacency or inaction."

I'll keep pushing hard in this parliament to deal with the root causes of the big challenges our community has told me they want to see prioritised - especially housing, health, climate, nature and integrity.

Dutton, Advance and the Welcome to Country

"Traditional Owners welcome people not to the construct of Australia created at Federation but to ancient customary estates," writes Marcia Langton. "Dutton and Price know so little about our culture and history that they misunderstand this basic premise."

Sky News host slams Liberal Party for going ‘woke’

April 27, 2025 - 12:37PM

Sky News host Rowan Dean has suggested the reason the Coalition is falling behind in the polls for the federal election is because they turned “woke”.

“The basic lesson here, we’ve been saying it on this program for years now – you go woke, you go broke,” Mr Dean said.

“The Liberals went woke as far as I can tell and I have no idea why.”

Anyway I think we can all agree the clear lesson is Dutton was simply too woke to keep his seat

the major parties have seen their primary votes fall from 96% in 1975 to 68% in 2022.

they had two options to arrest the decline:

1. win back trust with good governance & good policy
2. rig the system

tonight they chose to rig the system.

a dark day for australian democracy.

Insane how quickly the racist regression is happening in this country. Decades of progress being undone in weeks, without even any laws having to be passed. Just sheer intimidation from Trump and the right, and sheer cowardice from the corporations.

The president can veto or support legislation. He can make recommendations to Congress. But he doesn't have the unilateral right to change laws.

Trump has very little respect for the rule of law & our Constitution. He is moving us toward authoritarianism.

We must stop him.

Trump is attempting to unilaterally freeze trillions of dollars in federal spending that’s been duly appropriated by Congress. This is completely insane and illegal. He’s seizing unlawful control over the constitutional spending power? Five alarm fire www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...
