I saw The Day Today when I was 11 and was obsessed with Chris Morris. Years later a pen pal sent me Why Bother? on tape. I still have it. He was an old bloke I think but he was never weird. Listen I didn’t even know what a paedophile was until I saw Brass Eye. Anyway love this series all the best 👍

given that starmer can’t come out and say “we gave him the job because he was friends with the same nonce as trump”, it’s up to broadcasters to ask mps from all parties if they think that was a wise strategy

Not quite the eloquence of the ol’ Beast of Bolsover, is it?
“Half the Tory members opposite are crooks!”
[is told to withdraw the comment]
“Okay, half the Tory members opposite aren’t crooks.”

Sorry they refer to top officials in the Foreign Office as mandarins? The tiny oranges? And we’re supposed to take this seriously?

There’s mandarin ducks as well, I think, which is no better.

Thinking of that period as far back as the 1980s when media studies courses were routinely dismissed as ‘Mickey Mouse degrees’. Particularly and specifically by media outlets, curiously enough.

In the same manifesto, Palantir's owners argued that we need a national military draft, that soft power is over, and that we were too hard on Germany and Japan after World War II. I don't think that company should be allowed to exist anymore.

A screenshot from r/today I learned, and it's "TIL Month Python's famous gag in Holy Grail of using coconuts for horse clips was NOT out of budget necessity, but was in fact the first idea..."

and from that we can intuit the rest: this is a person who watched the film, saw the coconuts gag and thought "ah, they must not have been able to afford a horse. Never mind, I'll just watch around it"

There’s a big ugly LED billboard got erected in my town, and it keeps showing these in it’s cycle of community notices. I need to go and watch it again, take photos, and send a complainy e-mail to the council ‘cause I’m sick of seeing them. PAY GRAPHIC DESIGNERS! TAKE PHOTOS! Gaaaaah.

If Facebook wasn't bad enough, the sheer number of local events being advertised with horrendously awful AI slop posters - from gigs to pub quizzes - currently make it the ugliest site on the internet.

Five stars - Verified Purchase
Spider dreams guaranteed
Got these for a transatlantic flight from Seattle. Took effect about 20 minutes from consumption. I slept for about 4 hours and continued to use them to adjust to the timezone change. Every night I had the same dream about a spider wrapping me in a web very tightly and speaking backwards. It seemed very scared and was furious I could not understand what it was trying to say. 20 years passed in the dream world and eventually the spider and I became close friends and four years later we were married. Understandably our differences were too much and our relationship fell apart from the inside. My infidelity was the last straw and we never recovered from the betrayal. I would always wake up write before we signed the divorce papers. I had this same dream every night for 6 days. Great product. Highly recommend.

On that note: Looking forward to the Mandalorian film and slightly worried that something in it will make me cry in the cinema.

I was so glad they paused the S1 of Born Again to have a bit of a reset & make sure it was a continuity of the Netflix series.

I’ve really enjoyed WandaVision, Loki, and The Marvels, but I’ve struggled with a lot of the film output. FF4 was good, but it left me indifferent (that may have been me!)

@sturdyalex.bsky.social Just listening to QR and just gotten to your Marvel enthusings - are you watching Daredevil? I’ve been a bit off Marvel post-Endgame with a few notable exceptions, but I’m delighted they’ve officially incorporated Netflix DD into the MCU.

WOW: A stunning new report in the WSJ reveals that military advisers intentionally excluded Donald Trump from the command room during the recent high-stakes operation to extract a downed U.S. airman in Iran, because they feared his erratic behavior could jeopardize the mission. 1/

Not to mention the way that the surveillance has been forced on workers in Kenya, who are having to watch the output from these glasses and “be the AI” to make it work. So much “AI” technology isn’t even AI in the first place.

The device *is* socially hostile but that is a side-effect of the device having no (marketable) purpose.

The only plausible purposes are the empty, greedy, power-hungry, purposes of Mark, and he is *the* designer.

"design" is interesting here. They have designers working on parts at a time, UX, hardware, software, aesthetics, but these groups are not united by an overarching (marketable) purpose, they are detached from the bigger picture and designing for their domain purposes
