This a great piece of investigative journalism. @rollingstone.com
This should be required reading for scientists and ethicists.
Ethics matter, especially in science.

In summary, from both a personal and professional perspective, to hinder access to HPV vaccine would be to directly cause preventable deaths in both men and women, and to cost the U.S. $8B per year.
And I will fight it with everything in my power, I can promise you that.
An overpass occupied by people with signs, and a large banner between them that says, "Come for one, face us all." Because Fuck ICE, that's why. This is not my photo. I don't know who it belongs to.

This may be the most important paper ever published about NIH funded research.

Cartoon by Charles M Schulz showing the Peanuts gang reading - Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy and Woodstock all with books - Woodstock weighed down by War And Peace!
Why read books? Because there's a book for EVERYONE out there. And once you find the right book - reading will change your life forever! #literacy

Happy Birthday, Rosalind Franklin. She captured an X-ray diffraction image of DNA and stated that a helical structure was probable. Watson and Crick then created a detailed model based on her results. They initially received credit for the discovery and were awarded the Nobel Prize after her death.🧪

Before the 1970s, a child diagnosed with leukemia had a 90% chance of dying within 5 years.
Today, those odds are flipped: they have an almost 90% chance of survival.

One of the greatest tragedies of the gutting of the federal government is the loss of dedicated scientists who chose to work in public service for the benefit of the American people.
This letter is both incredibly brave and a testament to their integrity.

Read this thread to understand the horror, the suffering, the pain, and the dreadful censorship that Jay Bhattacharya has unleashed 😞
Congrats, Saahi! Also, what an amazing overview of your brilliant work. 👏👏👏
I am so excited to share our most recent work & my first big project as a graduate student! We leveraged spatial transcriptomics to study the cell-cell communication involved in human lung development. Here’s the full study: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Do not listen to RFK Jr. on covid vaccines for pregnant people. Listen to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, which STRONGLY recommends a covid vaccine during pregnancy, for the health of the pregnant person and the fetus. 🧪 www.acog.org/covid-19/cov...
In light of today’s recommendation on COVID vaccines for pregnant women, this 2022 piece by

HUGE NEWS.
A study presented at #AACR25 found that one dose of the HPV vaccine (which prevents CANCER) is as effective as two, with efficacy rates >97%.
Presenting at #pas2025 about cystic fibrosis newborn screening!
THIS IS HUGE! Researchers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center say results of a Phase I trial of an mRNA vaccine aimed at preventing pancreatic cancer show promise. The vaccine PREVENTED the cancer from coming back in patients who had already received treatment for MORE THAN three years. 🧪🧵⬇️
This is clearly happening to @atscommunity.bsky.social, where longtime friends and stalwarts — great teachers who usually show Americans cutting edge data from @anzics.bsky.social collaborations — are skipping this year
US patients will suffer from delayed access to latest results
Learning from the legendary Dr. Bonnie Ramsey #cysticfibrosis
scienmag.com/revolutionar... read about the new guideline for cystic fibrosis newborn screening! #medsky
Tom Mariani, PhD - chair of the ATS Research Advocacy Committee told Hill staffers, "It is no exaggeration to say important studies testing the benefits of new treatments have been delayed, fundamental research pursuing novel health discoveries have been derailed...by Administration actions."
Alright Skeeties! I wanted to put all the anatomy facts in a thread to keep them organized so:
WELCOME to class of 2023 Insomniac Anatomy Academy! In which I study anatomy when I can't sleep and share the best facts with you. 🧪
THIS: The Best Investment You Didn’t Know You Made: How NIH Funding Fuels Innovation and Economic Growth
www.amfar.org/news/how-nih...
Horrible. Pediatric brain cancer research. What are we doing? On this front:
'NIH suggests that indirect and direct costs are substitutes when in reality they are complements: (...) If NIH puts more money into direct project funding, that funding generates additional indirect costs for more labs, more safety & compliance officers, and more buildings & their utility costs.'
Screenshot of tweet from @AlecStapp “Too many people take biomedical innovation for granted.” Below this is a screenshot from an article on the Atlantic.com. Highlighted is the text: “A child born with cystic fibrosis in the 50s could expect to live until age 5. In the 70s, age 10. In the early 2000s, age 35. With Trikafta came a quantum leap. Today those who begin taking the drug in early adolescence, a recent study projected, can expect to survive to age 82.5 - an essentially normal lifespan.”
I remember the cystic fibrosis patients I took care of 20 years ago.
I also remember the dedicated HIV wards in the hospitals, and that Princess Diana made headlines for shaking hands with AIDS patients.
Progress has been incredible.
Miracles are where you choose to see them.
