Furthermore: from one side, Russia and China did not change their political systems, from the other side, participating to the Western market rules gave them the chance to became richer and strengthen the authoritarian character of their own regimes, where people are subjects and not citizens.

What is the right strategy to be adopted by democracies to face gross violation of international law principles by States who do not accept an order which, according to them, does not guarantee their existence?

I agree about the underestimation of the strategic risk of democracies in this sense: democratic regimes overlook the fact that on the global scene many actors are not democratic regimes, and do not respond to the communicative expectations of democratic regimes.

(Sorry if I write in Italian). Dovremmo, forse, chiederci se la democrazia così come oggi è strutturata debba essere ‘ripensata’ per porre rimedio alle asimmetrie e agli squilibri socio-economici che essa ha portato? My answer to your questions is yes to both.
