Had an amazing visit to NHSBT in Barnsley today. Loved my freebie “check your type” kit which has been lovingly used by my wife to discover shes a commoner by blood group standards.

(My kitchen table is not UKAS accredited)

This last week I’ve been mainly drinking Belgian beers. Wow! What a country. Loved spending time in Brussels and Bruges.

We’ve officially moved onto the Christmas Blend today! So good. Coffee was the only Black Friday weekend purchase. #coffee #barista #espresso

It’s Christmas tree night! The most important part is the baking Camembert and port!

Yeah did 8 years at Starbucks whilst I was at college and uni (the first time before BMS life).

I’ll bear that in mind the next time I’m left alone in pathology stores 😝.

Can we please have the lovely snow back please? Storm Bert sucks.

No I weigh out 18g of beans each time. Tip that in the grinder and grind that through every time. Aim to pour 36g of espresso for perfect 2:1 ratio. There’s quite a lot of variation in dose size if you let the machine do it for you. Previously was a nerdy barista. Then I became a BMS. Can you tell?

Oh no just on rotation. We only do single nights with 2x rests though so it’s not too bad.

Haha. It’s always the same. I’ve been doing nights since June and I still can’t decide whether I like them or not.

Sounds interesting! Only one in the UK. Wow.

Yeah that doesn’t sound good at all. What discipline is this btw? We have had the odd caller trying their luck asking if we can take units up to wards etc.

No way. Porters, pod or ward staff deliver to the lab overnight. We’re lone working so cannot leave our labs out of hours (haem/bt)

Thrombocytopenia, I would say ?lymphoblasts occasional with cytoplasmic bleb. Acute leukaemia ?ALL. Suggest immunophenotyping & marrow as next point of call?

Still training this algorithm to show me what I like. So to try and reach some of the Biomedical Scientists 🧪 out there here are a few snaps of random blood parasites I’ve took recently. For those who aren’t weird like us sorry. #science #biomedicalscience #haematology #parasitology #pathology

So seeing as I’m new here let’s introduce you to my little coffee set up (and teach the algorithm what I’m into). #coffee #barista

Well that’s see whether this app replaces what twitter once was. Tried threads but it’s just well… abit meh. If you love mostly silence with the occasional tweet about Forest, coffee, biomedical science, space or just generally moaning give us a follow. #newbie #imnewhere
