Yikes is right. I’d never voluntarily work under these unethical conditions. Giving up control of your byline is opening yourself up to liability, certainly loss of respect in this case. Your byline is your currency as a reporter. Shame on McClatchy.

From inside their employers’ homes, domestic workers — nannies, home cleaners and health aides — have watched attitudes on immigration shift to the right. They know some of the people who employ them may be the very people who want them out of the country.

Truly will not willingly speak, interact with, or associate in any capacity with anyone who is wearing or even owns these.
Pretty much.
In a Lyft on the way to the airport and the car reeks of weed and the driver is wearing a light up gas mask that ny brother informed me is a “bong mask.” Totally normal. Hopefully the contact high sets in soon bc right now I just have a headache.
The Supreme Court long relied on careful, time-tested procedures to issue decisions. But secret memos by the justices, obtained by The New York Times, show how the court decided to bypass those procedures and create its modern “shadow docket.” See key takeaways: www.nytimes.com/2026/04/18/u...

Former Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax fatally shot his wife, Cerina Fairfax, before taking his own life early Thursday at the family’s home, police said in what authorities described as a sudden and tragic act of domestic violence amid a pending divorce. ohiocapitaljournal.com/2026/04/17/r...
Dammit. They were one of the last unions contradicting this tragically heterosexual individual's suspicion that eternal romantic love does not exist.
(even if unattainable for women in heterosexual relationships it was nice to know it was out there)

On January 10, 2022, the Knicks played the San Antonio Spurs at the Garden. It was Pride night. Richards was there, attending with a friend. An 18-page report prepared by Eversole's Threat Management Group and reviewed by WIRED shows just how closely she was being monitored. 07:10:20 // CAM 0241 // scans her ticket to section 102, Row 8, Seat 5 07:11:14 // CAM 1434 // goes up terrace escalators on level 3 to level 6 concourse 07:12:52 // CAM AC10 // hugs usher Appendix A of the report has a screenshot of the embrace, with Richards circled in red. 08:08:58 // CAM 1093 // talking with F&B worker at the Draft Kings Bar 08:10:49 // CAM 0512 // pays for the drinks 08:31:19 // CAM 0485 // eating at a table It goes on and on. At 8:48 pm, camera 0489 spots another quick hug with an MSG “membership experience executive” (there's a grainy photo in the report's Appendix N). Two minutes and two seconds later, the same camera captures her heading into the women's bathroom. Her exit is noted after precisely two minutes and five seconds.
The owner of MSG and the Knicks compiled this kind of second-by-second surveillance of a trans woman while they were in the arena. They're doing this at all venues owned by James Dolan of perceived enemies. Crazy, crazy shit.

Doctors have very little leeway with TX's abortion ban and are forced to make on-the-spot decisions about the legality of care. Abortion bans inevitably lead to increased maternal and infant mortality. It is the known effect, not a question. So now doctors are paying the price for a state-passed law

I'm like ... there's the threat of nuclear war, the markets are going crazy, our president is at war with the pope, and sure, we need joy in our lives as well, but a cover story on "free" restaurant bread that required a months worth of work ... ain't doing it for me.
The Atlantic "bread story" is honestly making me rethink whether they're utilizing my subscription dollars wisely. Search the whole country for the best "free" restaurant bread (it's not free) and settle on Le Dip in DC? I mean, I can't respect the outcome, along with the premise.
Who could've seen this freight train coming? (Everyone but Caitlyn?)

A little righteous anger from me about everything disgusting about Eric Swalwell and Tony Gonzales:
-Democratic leadership wouldn't have done a damn thing if women hadn't spoken up
-GOP leadership only kicked out Tony because Democrats kicked out Swalwell

And all while they've been targeted on campuses and off for "DEI" and highly controversial beliefs like opposing genocide.
Very common from what I've seen. Plus there are non-No Kings protests, young people running for office, founding Indivisible chapters, participating in ICE watching/monitoring, org mutual-aid efforts --- all of these things are "protest." Mr. Edsall needs to adjust his definition & get out there.
