Weekly job loss report:
- 171,610 global jobs gone
- 18,923 American jobs gone
These jobs saved lives and created livelihoods. They lifted the American economy and the global economy. Please join us in continuing to share the impact of these senseless cuts.

Fwiw- it’s just a reg wall. 😊
Community: we just published an interactive map to help folks visually understand the impact of the the USAID funding crisis. Please share!
US funding for @gavi.org has held bipartisan support for years, because it is cost-effective and saves children’s lives. Please consider calling your reps/senators to urge full funding for this critical program.
Weekly Job Loss Update:
- 166,580 global jobs lost (up 55,401 from last week)
- 18,908 American jobs lost (up 3,312 from last week)
These numbers continue to rise dramatically as critical, life-saving pieces of our ecosystem, dissolve due to lack of funding and uncertainty.
Quick #WorldTBDay retro:
Before 2025:
- 2.6m patients in India treated
- 100,000 treated annually in Nigeria
- TB related deaths cut by 50% in Vietnam
Now:
- 57% of TB funding terminated
- 310,000 lives at immanent risk (pop. of Cincinnati)
- 24 countries lost access to treatment & care
While we are focused primarily on accurately reporting the numbers, the people are our why. Here are a few.
“Of the biggest USAID sectors, the hardest hit…are agriculture, maternal & child health, infrastructure, good governance, and pandemic preparedness.” @cgdev.org

In a recent interview with CNN, Harvard Chan School’s Mary T. Bassett (@fxbharvard.bsky.social) discussed recent public health headlines, including federal funding cuts to scientific research and global aid and the potential of another infectious disease pandemic.
Unfortunately coming in with a mid-week job loss number update, as our count has seen a dramatic rise this week. Globally we can confirm now that 140,179 jobs have been lost in spite of on-going legal challenges to the dismantling of USAID.

Breaking News: A judge found that Elon Musk’s effort to shutter USAID most likely violated the Constitution, and ordered its operations partially restored.
“But foreign aid is not charity. It is the United States’ insurance policy, protecting us from bird flu, ebola, violent terrorism, illegal migration and political instability.”
Operating in high-risk spaces without insurance is just a wholly indefensible position.
Confirming $64.8m lost in Nebraska - definitely something Nebraskans have a right to know.
UPDATE: Our latest global job loss numbers are in & they have nearly doubled since our last update to 111,179. No warning, no transition plan. A life-saving sector gutted on a whim.

3.3m people dead in one year without just 5 of many USAID program areas. That’s roughly the population of Utah. This defunding is unconscionable.

Really appreciated this conversation with Matt Galloway of the CBC. We got to talk about tuberculosis, the implications of defunding USAID, and the future of the disease in a world where human health is not being prioritized.

USAID Community: the House just passed a stop-gap funding measure that does not include critical foreign aid funding. Now is the time to call your Senators to tell them that restoring foreign aid is a voting issue for you.
Here’s how:
New video from @nytimes.com on the impacts of attacks on USAID for domestic manufacturers of critical food products that fight malnutrition globally.

“Defendants are, as this motion is being filed, destroying documents with potential pertinence to this litigation.”
Follow orders or follow the law? USAID workers caught in the crossfire yet again.
USAID reach by the numbers:
- basic medical care for 95 million people
- education for 23 million children
- $4.8 billion in economic growth
Taking care of our people, taking care of our neighbors, leaving the world better than we found it. This is the best of America.
“The president does not have “unbounded power” in the realm of foreign affairs, he stated, and because of that, the Trump administration must spend the money that’s already been appropriated by Congress.”

Very grateful to the TB Community Coordination Hub for finding ways to gather data even when funding for data-gathering has been canceled.
This is critical reading, but to highlight one disaster: 29% of those surveyed have completely stopped initiating TB treatment.

This space is changing so quickly, it’s helpful to have these snapshots to recap where we’re at. Thanks to our friends @devex.com for the visibility:
