I wrote up a story, now updated with a statement from IBR. It sounds like essentially all of the cut material will be in the "SEPA Addendum" published later this spring/summer. So the information will still be out there, although the feds stress in the SEIS that they'll ignore the addendum entirely.
McClatchy has fallen.
Not really the point here but what's with the YOU WOULDN'T DOWNLOAD A CAR font?
Forbes is gamifying news about the horrific mass shooting in Shreveport, LA this weekend, encouraging readers to bet on the likelihood of gun regulation with fake money via its "ForbesPredict" feature.
Eight children were murdered in the shooting.

A Forbes article about a father who killed eight children, with an embedded prediction widget inviting people to speculate on whether "Congress will pass new gun safety legislation before 31st December 2026"
ghoulish
A headline reads: "Times Exclusive: The Inside Story of 5 Days That Remade the Supreme Court. Secret memos obtained by The New York Times illuminate the origins of the court’s now-routine 'shadow docket' rulings on presidential power."
Confidential memos by Supreme Court justices, obtained by The New York Times, show how they decided to bypass time-tested procedures and create the modern “shadow docket,” a rushed and secretive new way of doing business. www.nytimes.com/2026/04/18/u...
What's changed from the IBR Draft SEIS? Well, this new bit in the summary certainly jumps out:
NEW: We caught a site run by a buzzy PR firm ripping off local and national journalism at an almost incomprehensible scale -- it's like a fully automatic machine gun spraying bullets of pure plagiarism directly into the internet

in my new parent sleep deprived state I for some reason read the headline as just mayors of Portland, and for a solid minute there I was trying to figure out if it was a commission joke or if she was endorsed by like, Wilson and five former mayors (which would be difficult since only four are alive)

The Seattle Mariners' statue reveal for Ichiro Suzuki had, well, one of the more inauspicious mishaps imaginable.
The top part of the Moon is illuminated. The gray cratered surface stands out against the blackness of space. The Earth appears in the far distance as an upside-down crescent moon shape. There is some lens flare in the top part and center of the image. Credit: NASA
okay i change my mind, THIS is one of the best and most beautiful images from artemis ii

By my count, there are now over 50 House Democrats, along with two Senate Democrats, who have called for Trump to be impeached or removed via the 25th Amendment for his post on Iran.

[alt text by NASA] The Moon, seen here backlit by the Sun during a solar eclipse on April 6, 2026, is photographed by one of the cameras on the Orion spacecraft’s solar array wings. Orion is visible in the foreground on the left. Earth is reflecting sunlight at the left edge of the Moon, which is slightly brighter than the rest of the disk. The bright spot visible just below the Moon’s bottom right edge is Saturn. Beyond that, the bright spot at the right edge of the image is Mars. Credit: NASA
Whoa 🤯
The Moon, in full eclipse, with the #Artemis II Orion spacecraft. Part of the Moon and spacecraft are lit by Earthshine, and both Saturn and Mars are visible to the lower right. Incredible. Details: images.nasa.gov/details/art0...

No easy path to the VA hospital? No problem, build a 700-foot suspension skybridge. No space left for the children's hospital? Says you, we can just put it on stilts over a canyon. What's that? Someone said cable car? Fuck it, yeah let's do a cable car.

I love the Marquam Hill campus architecture, it looks like the product of a series of battles between the design people and the budget people where the design people somehow won every time. This is a Minecraft fortress.
Captured by the Artemis II crew during their lunar flyby on April 6, 2026, this image shows the Moon fully eclipsing the Sun. From the crew’s perspective, the Moon appears large enough to completely block the Sun, creating nearly 54 minutes of totality and extending the view far beyond what is possible from Earth. The corona forms a glowing halo around the dark lunar disk, revealing details of the Sun’s outer atmosphere typically hidden by its brightness. Also visible are stars, typically too faint to see when imaging the Moon, but with the Moon in darkness stars are readily imaged. This unique vantage point provides both a striking visual and a valuable opportunity for astronauts to document and describe the corona during humanity’s return to deep space. The faint glow of the nearside of the Moon is visible in this image, having been illuminated by light reflected off the Earth. [alt text from NASA]
The #Artemis II astronauts said they needed more superlatives to describe their view of the eclipse, when the Sun was behind the Moon and its near surface was faintly illuminated by Earthshine
There's something a bit poignant about a Bluetooth device failing to connect to another device right next to it when they're the only Bluetooth devices for hundreds of thousands of kilometres around.

If you're wondering whether you might still spot a Type 1 in the wild, the answer is... maybe. TriMet says officially, four of them are still in revenue service — but they're all in the shop at the moment and it's unknown whether they'll make it back out before being retired later this spring.
