To me this reads like a pretty good reason to use ai to write my book. I mean, a lethally derisive Colson Whitehead materializing to tell me anything would be a great story to tell. . . And I suddenly have a great idea for a book. Thank you.

“Sitting here writing things on paper,
Instead of sticking the pencil into the air.”
-Bob Kaufman

I wonder at what is it (or isn’t it) about Zen and Zen-like lines that feels so familiar to me, like remembering what I already knew. Outside, tree limbs are waving; I wave back.

Why all the abstract language? There is no need to process if you know what you think and how you feel. You don’t need an event in which group stays in a place and quietly waits. PSNH will hold a virtual poetry demonstration to protest illegal actions against people and the freedom of speech.

What is time?

“’Time is a fish,’ said Nanapush slowly, ‘and all of us are living on the rib of its fin.’”
-The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse by Louise Erdrich.

Louise Erdrich is also a zen master.

You have to think you’re someone before you can lose yourself.

Thank you. I just finished The Buffalo Hunter Hunter because of this list, and (gosh) do I want more.

My favorites were:
A Bright Ray of Darkness by Ethan Hawk - Maybe you will like it for the actor's story.
The Lie Tree by Frances Hardinge - My 8th class loved this.
The Fox Wife by Yangtze Choo

No, that isn’t right.

There was no longer any me to move through
I became a doorway that walks through itself
the whole of existence following through, too

that was how broken I was
I broke
and opened
and now wonder if
in such a state
one can scarcely be called human

and if not
then what?

“And there are always those who will watch Alexandria burn. There always have been. There always will be. So there are always guardians.”

Seems relevant.

flowers sleep
waiting for spring to arrive

These remind me of something old — like colonial drawings.

Air through icicles
Quiet as flowers dream
Not spring yet, yet, yet

Frozen river
Not so frozen
How deep do you go?

Frozen river
Not so frozen
Where do your waters flow?

Frozen river
Not so frozen
How many have died to know?

The light
drops and
drops
until it leaves,

leaves its
reflection
on the clouds and
the moon

but beyond is
the view to everything

Build a bridge to yourself
walls only keep us apart

Here, take my hand
it’s yours, too,

this is how to start

walk around

Now I will tell you one
of the secrets of the universe

unfolding a tablecloth,
opening a present

the world becomes
how we think about it.
