Why am I posting about this?
Because from the start of 2020, I was covering the scientific research that showed Covid (Sars-CoV-2) spread primarily through airborne aerosols (link below).
Those same folks authored and endorsed this letter. I stand with them.

Surgical face masks are loose fitting and designed for one-way protection, while the FFP2 respirator (likely a KN94 or KN95 here) is a tight-fitting mask, which creates a facial seal.

There is “no rational justification remaining for prioritising or using” the surgical masks that are ubiquitous in hospitals and clinics globally, given their “inadequate protection against airborne pathogens”, they said in a letter to WHO chief Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
The letter is a timely call for adequate protection against airborne pathogens for healthcare workers and patients, as the the current WHO guidelines are inadequate and causing harm, given that the airborne transmission of SARS-CoV-2 and other pathogens is established.
