Vital City | How Prevention Reduced Crime and How To Get More of It We have to understand what drove 2025 dramatic nationwide declines to build on them.

What drove the nationwide crime decline of 2025? @johnkroman.bsky.social argues that large-scale prevention investments — funded through pandemic recovery dollars — helped drive the drop and that future gains require thinking beyond policing alone.

How AI poisoning is fighting bots that hoover data without permission The web is awash with bots that scrape data without permission. Now content creators are poisoning the well of artificial intelligence – but similar technology can also be used to spread misinformatio...

Web-browsing bots, rather than humans, account for the bulk of web traffic. Over half of that is from malicious bots, hoovering up personal data. An increasing proportion comes from bots sent by AI companies to gather data for their models or respond to prompts

I wrote about Zohran Mamdani Economic Derangement Syndrome and how a Democratic Socialist won both Wall Street and the "Commie Corridor" in New York City: With a relentless focus on cold, hard cash

Mamdani Did All the Things the Establishment Hates. He Won Anyway. There’s a growing appetite for something new and innovative growing among the electorate—and an opportunity for Democrats to grow that electorate, as well.

I am not super optimistic that the Dem gerontocracy will learn the right lessons from Mamdani’s win but here’s my analysis anyway: newrepublic.com/article/1972...

Rather than leave it there, the Times on Monday ran an editorial declaring, “We are not endorsing a candidate.” But the piece did go on to criticize Mamdani while also seeming to back Cuomo.
“Mr. Mamdani would also bring less relevant experience than perhaps any mayor in New York history,’ the scathing piece said. ‘He has never run a government department or private organization of any size. As a state legislator, he has struggled to execute his own agenda.”
Breaker has learned that the editorial was written by Editorial Director of Opinion (and a contender to be the next Executive Editor of The Times), David Leonhardt, who while a native New Yorker now lives in D.C (other opinion writers did provide input into the piece).

Also: amazing lemonade and gazpachos that require only 10 minutes and a blender

My latest: Democrats must stop running sexual harassers like Andrew Cuomo. It's insulting to our intelligence and deeply unsafe for women.

Yes, you should protest the ICE raids A harmful group of pundits and politicians appeared online to tell people to stay out of the streets as the Trump Administration takes away civil rights. Don't listen to them

Fascism and tyranny require your permission. Your silence in the face of fascism is permission for the fascists to keep going. After all, if it was bad, you would have said something, right? — @moorehn.bsky.social
