If Starmer came out at the start & said that, the matter would be buried by now. He would have taken a hit, but survived.

But following the Partygate model of crisis management, & thinking the matter is closed has most likely cost him his job & thrown the country back into the chaos of 2017-2022.

Well... he is sort of right.

If you have cancer and use diet soda as treatment, those cancer cells will eventually die.

The rest of you will die too, but the cancer cells will definitely be dead.

BBC R4 Today: Here is a potentially misleading story on a highly politicised and inflammatory subject. And for a balanced comment, here is the Reform Party.

FFS.

No wonder this country is fucked.

"Bending over backwards" =/= describing someone as "My friend"

Get a fucking grip.

He didnt say Trump was his BFF either, neither did Lammy with Vance.

This is getting boring now. You would like us to tell Trump, Vance etc to fuck off be cause they are vile people. So would I. It is not possible and would be terrible for the country. Now goodnight.

I am not confortable with it. But it is necessary. Same as with China.

BBC News leading all its bulletins on demands by former Government advisor Lord Robertson for more defence spending, without at any point mentioning his current paid senior role for US defence lobbyists

Potentially damaging relations with the GOP (in power around 1/2 the time) and our relationship with our most powerful ally.

Trump is repugnant. But we are stuck with him for the next 3 years. Better to make it as easy for us as possible.

My reasonableness is purely pragmatic. We need the US at the moment. When we don't, we can afford to be a lot less diplomatic with them.

A Gov't of any political persuasion would get the same from me. However, the Tories/Reform would be fellating Trump, and the Greens/LDs would burn the bridges,

3. No disagreement on that. But the US is still an extremely wayward ally. Trump will be gone in 3 years. Vance may not, & the GOP definitely won't. Better (though less palatable) to maintain civil diplomatic ties.

1. He still wasnt part of Giv't and wasn't going to get anything of note done.
2. He didn't avoid diplomacy. He showed his opposition to whatever Gov't was in place at the time. Which is the sum of his career, apart from the 2015-19 period.

I would argue Jeremy Corbyn hasn't got a fat lot done, except for destroying the left wing of the Labour Party (which is disastrous). He had his own share of "cosy chats" with people some would find objectionable. Nothing wrong with that though.

1 week ago 0 0 0 0

A) Jeremy Corbyn was not part of the UK Government.
B) Hamas are not our ally, and we have no diplomatic relationship with them.
C) Hamas are a terrorist organisation.

So in short, no.

1 week ago 0 0 1 0

No, of course not. The way out of dependence on US defence is to build alliances & our own military. This can't be done overnight, especially with the economy the way it is.

Ditching our relationship with the POTUS/VP because it feels good to tell Trump to fuck off would be self-sabotage.

We rely on the US for defence (as shown by today's news) & the EU for economy (to a lesser degree than with the US defence).

Trump will be gone in 3 years, but Vance may not, & the GOP will definitely be around. So there is a relationship to maintain.

1 week ago 0 0 0 0

This isn't Love Actually. He has a responsibility to the UK to maintain our relationship with the US and Vance (who is very possibly the next POTUS).

We are an isolated middle power, beholden to US for defence, and EU for our economy. Sadly, this will involve our Gov't doing things we dont like.

And will get away with it. I am convinced that some of his base believe he is the 2nd Coming, as repugnant as that thought is.

1 week ago 0 0 0 0

Not really. He seems at the moment to be competent in the role.

1 week ago 0 0 0 0

Probably not for this US administration. And we need them, unfortunately as we have isolated ourselves over the last decade.

1 week ago 0 0 0 0

In a perfect world, yes absolutely.

In this world, with an isolated UK, the US being the most powerful country in the world and being so unpredictable atm, plus our long standing diplomatic relationship with the US, some diplomacy is due.

I like your impact on our political class, but this take is a bit off the mark.

David Lammy is our chief diplomat. What do you expect him to say?

"FFS Had to speak to this bellend today.🤦‍♂️"
